Great thread. Because of it I checked out the websites the The Constitution and The Success and now I'm dying to go! I like the idea of the open boat trips so I don't have to get a whole crew together. Seems like it would be pretty convenient to sign up, book a flight and just show up and fish. How big a PIA is it to fly back with some meat though?

Get a 36 can soft side bag and it will weigh 50lbs packed with tuna. Easy just treat it like a checked bag..

I try to find options like this when I travel with my wife, this way I don't need to find a bunch of guys to get a full boat, or rely on some low grade "boat ride" on a 1/2 or full day party boat. To be able to let her have a good time at a resort for a couple days while I'm out fishing would be great. She would probably prefer it that way at times.

Yes. Fished the Success last weekend during the full moon. Fishing was tough, but all 6 guys on board got one over 150lb. Only one cow for the trip. The operation was awesome! Carey worked his ass off until the last minute. On our last day of fishing, we hooked our final fish at 8:00pm and fished until after 10:00pm! The Crew could not have been better, the food was superior to several of the long range boats I have been on, and the bunks are large and comfortable (the bunkroom was actually cold!). At the end of the trip, no extra charges except beer. Already booked again for next season. Oh yah, the fish I brought home was exceptionally good!

Now you understand why the boat's base price is Appealing (constitution). When all said and done, Just figure double your base price of the trip, LOL.

$4.00 beers on a charter boat in mexico, It better come with a table dance with a good looking senorita. A case of beer in Puerto Vallarta cost $ 12.00 plus a $1.00 bottle deposit, which is refund able. You could make a good living on the boats beer sales alone, The boat doesn't nicole and dime you, It $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ you to the end. Does the boat have an ATM Machine on the boat??

Will any of the San Diego boats allow you to bring home fish in their RSW after their last charter at PV?

well, $27.99 a # at Point Loma Seafoods right now..........

and their beers are $7. :D

Serious question for the veterans of all the PV boats........does the YFT from these trips taste better to you?

It does to me.........I think it's due to the being filleted every night. (at least the Maximus used to fillet every night).

I'm sure that would be an extra, I heard it's ok to use your own ky for this but the rod charge is additional.

No,not really. They gut and gill and chill on the Apollo too. The long range boats that do the gut and gill before dropping em in the rsw taste the same imo.
Some boats don't do the gut and gill, and sometimes they are coming on too hot and heavy to do it.
But no, tastes the same to me.
