Headed to Colonet late January - never been there specifically that time of year. What’s to be expected? I know it’s primarily a rockfish / YT area but is it a little too early for the YT to show? Just looking for some basic input.

Will be headed out on the New Lo-An for a 1.5 day cruise.

The yellows should be there at that time. The last couple of seasons they have run into a few bluefin schools also.

Bring a 20lb-30lb setup as last year we ran into bluefin on the shogun. Lots of guys had 40lb and heavier gear expecting just a bottom fishing trip and could not get bit on the heavy stuff. Yellows on the high spots so a 50 lb yoyo setup for sure.

Please don’t tell me it’s gonna end up a bluefin watching party... been on too many of those.

I fished that area 3 weeks ago and the yellows were on the bottom 240 feet , we used 6x white and blue and white on the crank from the bottom along with so e reds , the water was super clean and 62 degrees , you should catch reds , lings and 14 to 20 pound yellows , Good luck on your trip

Wanted some feedback on setups to take. Here’s where I’m at so far, planning on four setups:

7’6 UC RAPTOR with Fathom 40NLD2 80 lb braid for heavy yo-yo
7’6 Okuma PCH XH with Komodo 463 65 lb braid for backup yo-yo and heavy rockfish / dropper
8’ Calstar GG 6480 with Avet JX 6.0 65lb braid for dropper loop and rockfish
8’ Okuma PCH MH with Komodo 364 50lb braid for rockfish, flylining baits and surface action if needed (ya never know)

Top shots of mono and flouro as called for.

Ready to roll?
