1st day of coho fishing at Icy Bay Lodge, AK
We could, not go where we wanted as we couldn't cross a river due to recent rain.
Nonetheless, we had decent coho fishing.
Fly fishermen did much better as we fished shlow weedy area. I tried coho in front of the lodge. but strangely zi didn't get any hit.
I hope we can go where we want tomorrow.

2nd day of coho fishing at Icy Bay Lodge, AK

We fished across bay. We had only three hours fishing as we had to get off and get on the boat from the beach and tide should be right.
It is pretty long walk for my old body, but it worth it as we fished in prestine view and fishing was good.
There were no other fishemen except our group in the whole river.
Again, fly fishermen did much better than spinning fishermen as there were lots of weed.
But still spinning fishermen caught their share of fish.
I used 8'6" Black Hole Suzuki II Ultra Light rod. The cast with 3/8 oz spinnier was great and action of the rod for fighting coho was great. I am happy with it.

3rd day of coho fishing at Icy Bay Lodge, AK
We had rain all day.
We tried other side of bay where I had 30 - 40 hookups when I fished there for the first time. But there were very few coho. They must go into the river now.
We will try the river across bay where we fished yesteday tomorow as we can not cross the river on our main area called Yahtse due to weather. I might try fly rod to avoid weed.
They say they will try Yatse on Thurs and Fri as weather is good.
One angler got a halibut on a fly rod in front of the lodge.

4th day of coho fishing at Icy Bay Lodge, AK

We fished across bay again and I decided to use fly rod though I am a beginner.
We had three hours fishing time due to tide.
I had 11 hookups on fly rod though I am kind of beginner and my casting distance is limited. Guys who can cast father got far more hookups than I did.
It was very pleasant day with relaxed atmosphere.

5th day of coho fishing at Icy Bay Lodge, AK

We tried Yahtse, but we couldn't cross the river as water level was still too high.
So we fished where we fished a few days ago.
Fishing was pretty good. I used both spinning rod and fly fishing rod.
I had 5 coho on spinning rod and 6 on fly fishing rod.
Of course guys who cast farther on fly rod caught way more.
Another pleasant and fun day.

6th day of coho fishing at Icy Bat Lodge, AK

Today was the final day.
Taday we finally had sun and mountain view was spectacular.
We chose Yahtse finally and I am glad we did as fishing was fabulous.
Bear were everywhere and we had to watch them carefully.
I had 16 coho on fly rod and other flyfishermen must had 30 - 40 coho each.
Whenever I saw them fishing, someone was always fighting salmon.
When I walked back slowly, bear followed me. I am a little nervous.
:)

Whar a great fishing to end this trip.

Thank you for your trip report and your pictures of Mount Saint Elias 18,000' from nearly sea level, impressive. Bears are scary!
