Last weekend the clipboard girl started asking me questions before I even had my boat on the trailer... As I was slipping from the bow onto my truck to set the winch and pull out.

On a busy ramp, that's the last distraction I need. Another time they waited till the boat was trailered.

Just curious as for others, do they usually wait till you're out of the water?

I usually just tell them that I'm heading to the wash down and meet me there. Never had an issue with this. Some times they come over and check sometimes they just move on to another boat.

    Exactly what OUTLAND stated!
They are cordial with me, guess they've learned. LMAO!
I always have them meet me at the wash down.
What I sometimes have problem with is if they want to measure and
weigh stuff, especially if it's already been done by me. I have the stats!
Once in a blue moon they get too pushy.
If she's cute she might get away with it. LOL
Breathe deep . . they are accumulating stats for the benefit of us all,
at least that's what I was told by many of them.
I'm trying to recall if they're on the DGF payroll of NMFS payroll.
    Take care.

    Hey guys,
Stats that help us?????? Can you say MLPA?????
They are not state employees, that shirt and patch mean nothing.
You have no obligation to talk to them at all and they have no legal authority to check you out.
    Politely decline to participate.

You wacked 'em=You are depleting the resources
You had a slow day=resources depleted

The survey girl (and accompanying dfg volunteer officer ) did nothing but wonder outloud why nobody in Long Beach would talk to them on Sunday. Another angler enlightened them on our lack of trust for their work.

Wash your boat and head home....easy as that

Washdown! What washdown? I dont got no stinkin washdown in san diego ramps. Why dont we have a stinkin washdown? San Diego Port District is too cheap to install a stinking washdown. The remodel of the ramp was given to a different Contractor that has no experience, or very little, with building ramps, docks, WASHDOWNS, etc. I need to do some research on what is the plan for the future upgrade at shelter Island. A stinking washdown would be great.

I used to take the stance you have until I realized it was historical mismanagement of the fishery by the DFG that has created the current situation and MLPA crapola. Wouldn't you rather have stats collected to determine a certain area and/or fishery is healthy with the hope of a smaller MLPA versus them saying F-it let's just close the whole FN stretch of coast? I know I would. Good Luck!

Is that why we fish? ... and I mainly come here to look at the avatars.

I don't get that point and I don't think anything has to do with fish counts ... but what bothers me is the distraction when I'm trying to get my ass out of the water while all the ramps are full.

It's obvious I'm busy, but I continue to get follow up questions. Then when I stop answering, she goes for my passenger when I could really be using his help getting out of the way for others to use the ramp.

I'm no pro like some of you and the crowded boat ramp thing is still consumes all my focus.

Just wait till we're out of the water putting the transom straps on, washing off or something.

    Thanks for the replies.

One time fishing the bay I had a friend bring some bait. I told him to bring frozen mackeral which he had. When he dragged it out it was a freakin small frozen carp his kid had kept in the freezer. We ended up using squid and forgot we had the carp, which I was willing to try as bait.

We had a couple seconds of fun with the guy at the dock as we had the carp mixed in with sandies but we couldn't keep from laughing. He kept asking, did you really catch that in the bay?

I had one get a little pushy with me before i had my boat off the ramp. I told her to back off. After i was ready i told her now is a good time. We talked for a bit and turns out she lives across the street form me. This led to that and we did it. :) .

No. They try to sneak attack to catch you off guard. Your right thats a major distraction. Sometimes there a little rude. Unless I have lots of time I just tell them "NO thank you" and they walk away. Its strictly a voluntary survey. If you have time help them out BUT your are under no obligation to answer ANYTHING OR OPEN YOUR ICE CHEST OR KILLBAG

I agree and I am no pro either but like I said simply ask them to meet you at the washdown. I have never once had them continue to bother me after that. Also as mentioned in another post half of the time they are fun to look at during the conversation that follows. Why not show off your catch while you make your crew wash down the boat.
