every thing that leaves the house gets washed on the way back in, except the unused tackle.
rods get leaned against a tree and a couple passes with a hose. towel dry to remove spots some of the time, but not always. pledge once a year (looks so nice!). a couple of my oldest boat rods have some corrosion at the brace for the perfection guides, but only a couple. scales get flaked off while fishing, my 40# reel knob seems to grow scales no matter what I do.
reels come off the rods, rinsed under the kitchen faucet sprayer with the drag on, and STAY IN THE KITCHEN for a couple days, so I'll remember to spin the crank a few times the first day, then loosen the drags and let them finish drying the second day, then get stored on a shelf in the man cave after that (my wife won't let me forget). I tie/sato new leaders every couple of trips or more often if needed, and I do a full break-down, grease/oil service annually. I just finished all my reels on Friday, about twenty of them over two weeks, and here's why: I only found one bad bearing; two that are a little slower than the rest so I'll replace them anyway; a couple main gear/pinion gear combos that need to go in the ultrasonic cleaner; the usual reel foot hardware that somehow collects the most corrosion; but I found a surprising amount of salt in a couple reels, including my nighttime jigging setups (makes sense, it's a LOT of wet line going up/down constantly). this is why I like avets, btw- they're so simple I can do all the service myself.
I have a "salty" pocket on the side of my tackle bag, and any tackle that comes out of the bag goes back into the pocket. then I rinse at home and dry on a towel, oil/replace as needed. no rust in my tackle storage since I started doing this years ago, I have found one rusty hooks makes a whole rusty tray. plus, I always find things to fix/replace when I'm in my kitchen but I always mis-organize or fail to notice problems when I'm on the boat.
clothing gets washed and put back in the "work/fish" side of the closet. sleeping bag airs out for a couple days then goes back in the duffel. boots get hosed/brushed and aired out in the garage until the next trip. personal/ditty bag goes into the hallway closet for whatever adventure comes next.
