I bought this boat from a good buddy of mine. He owned it probably 20 years and remodeled it a couple times. This boat has a ridiculous pedigree of fish killing and reliability. So I sold my 19 foot Aquasport CC and jumped on this Chris Craft Scorpion 216. I've always loved the lines on this boat and it rides like a Caddy.
Long story short, me and my teenage boys fished it last season, finishing our 2015 season with 23 yft on Thankgiving Day. That weekend we shut it down and started a "minor" remodel. Yeah sure. With the urging of my super hot and badass wife, we ended up going full gut, cut off the transom, added 4' feet, new stringers, new all foam and glass pilot house, new everything. Its far from done, but for guys working on these types of projects I thought some photos might help at this stage. I have the old pilothouse and bait tank available as well if somebody wants it. If you want to check out my project in person or if you need some help email me at [email protected] the boat is in Spring Valley. I am far from an expert, but after 20 years of building houses and solving problems, it isnt rocket science. All the white is 5/8" melamine being used as a mold only.
For the record, we thought we would be done in 6 months, but a ton of work (Im a GC and Realtor), family, graduations etc have kept this at a snails pace in my opinion. Me and my guys did the demo, and built the house mold and all other carpentry, I have a couple local dudes doing the glass work (fantastic and great price, highly recommended). I'm buying everything at Fiberlay, using VE resin only, 1708 BDM and 1.5 chopped mat, foam core, and Mahogany Hydrotek ply from Frost. The main stringers are 1 5/16" x 14 LVL from La Mesa Lumber. Im trying to build a lightweight tank. A true 25 footer when done, plus motor bracket.
I have raised the gunnels 6 inches, raised the deck about 8", added under deck fish holds, new gas tank, tons of storage, everything inside and outside will be gel coat, drainage, new tuna tower etc etc. My new goal is 100% complete for next season. Hopefully we will have all the exterior layers of glass done in a couple weeks, then the foam, once that happens we can remove the entire mold, and finish all the glass work interior and begin the exterior glass and fairing.
Major project for sure, but this boat deserves to be revived. A true American Classic in my opinion. And a very special thanks to my wife and fishing partner Crystal for pushing me to do it and go big.

What a great , quality project. Go big or don't go should be your motto. Wish I could have seen this in person from the start . I have a ghost I've been staring at for a few years that needs "a little work". Stringers , deck , rearrangement etc. Please post more pics if you can.
Thanks for sharing

Killer build DG and yes.......... Beautiful wife too!

Are you guys glassing the underside of the gunnel and foredeck mold all overhead? Or will that potion of the mold be removed and flipped for glass. If overhead that's got to be a bear to do.

Pleas keep us posted, very aggressive project and going to be super cool boat when done!

As of now I am putting the Suzuki 225 back on. It runs like a beast and has plenty of life left in it. But who knows, once I am done things may change by then. I would probably do a single 300 Yami or Suzuki

Thanks, shes pretty rad. Yes, all the forward deck and cap rails are being glassed from under. These guys are pretty damn good. Professional fiberglass guys. I could do it myself as I like doing glass work, but no time. I have to make money and raise 4 kids.

Sorry, fuel tank will be around 120 gallons. I removed a ton of wet wood, so even though its bigger, I think it will be a bit lighter going mostly foam and glass. I could fish the Hidden Bank all day on 50 gallons as it was.

No idea. Dont want to know. I do know 3 things. You cant take it with you. You cant place a value on fun. And a dollar not spent has no value.

i agree 100%, i was just curious being a guy of limited resources myself. i suppose its one of those ..." if you have to ask how much $$$ you probably cant afford it" thing.

since i asked i guess we know which group im in. :D

Sorry, was totally not trying to sound like a dick. Bottom line is, work is going good, so I'll keep going on the boat. Family priorities come first so if market tanks or there's no available loot, boat project goes into slow motion.

What year is the original hull? I saw one like this on craigslist a while back- could have been this exact one. What are you asking for the old house? I wonder if it would fit on Scorpion 213...

Very cool rebuild. Looking forward to more pictures.

I absolutely love the lines on these classics. Going to be the best scorpion on this coast, that's for sure.

Great pics and project. I love the lines of the boat, it has a few similarities to early 80s Mako's

Please keep adding pics, these are some of my favorite post

Wow man, speechless!!!!

That is truly insane....... mad props to you!!

After looking at this, I don't think I would hesitate to use you for any house rebuild project........ you seem highly qualified for sure.

I think this project should be called, "Scorpion meets Honey Badger"

New boat should be coined..... 25' Scorpion Badger.

Keep the pics and progress flowing.

Looking great!...any updates?
After applying wax and PVA, then rolling on a couple coats of gel coat, there is now 1 layer of 1.5 CSM and 2 layers of BDM 1708 on the outer skin all with VE resin. Tomorrow we will be installing or "tiling" the foam core to the structure and then covering that with one layer of 1708 and a layer of 1.5. Hopefully (fingers waaay) crossed we are removing the mold by Monday. After that I will build the top and get it ready to attach to the top flange.
These glass guys are Bad Ass. Good honest hardworking guys. You need glass repair or full tilt structure done, these guys rock it.
