My apologies for the late report. I'm sitting here at work wishing I was fishing. My buddy chartered the Pride for our group of 11 (awesome). I saw another report posted by the guys before our trip this morning. Our trip was a repeat of theirs. Pulled up to the first patty in the am (60 miles out) and its controlled chaos. The Yellows (5-10 lbs) ate everything we through at it. I caught YT and Dorado on the surface iron. My buddy was killing them on the Flat Fall and Everyone killed them on bait. As soon as your line hit the water it was on.
We were almost reaching limits on the first patty of the morning so we decided to move on and find Dorado. Hit up a few more patties for limits on YT and Dorado and catch and release. The fishing was so good that I was able to devirginize my Lexa 300 and my popper (so fun on the popper).
I was fishing 25lb - 40lb. The fish are not line shine. There was micro bait mixed in with some bigger sized dines so I used a sized 2 Mustad live bait hook. This hook was fine for smaller models but got straightened on one Yellowtail on my 40lb gear so I changed up to a thicker Owner live bait hook. It was definitely a nice fish. Jackpot fish was between 30lb and 35lb.
Captain and crew were awesome. Garrett hooked up some very tasty breakfast and fat burgers for lunch. I hope this report is helpful.

Thanks for the report! Congrats on the awesome fishing. I think if I catch just one YT on the popper and one on the yo-yo or flat-fall on my upcoming 3.5 day the entire trip would be worth it.

Great post! First I've really heard of the yellows and dodo's being caught on something other than bait. Congrats on a great trip.

The fish are out there and they definitely want to die. The medium sized Halco's was the ticket. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info! All I have are the big boys. May need to pick up a few 160's before I head out!

One on the popper yes. Paddy fishing may not do so well on the yo yo, although you might sneak an opah out. Fish the surface iron.

Thanks, Lake! I plan on fishing the surface iron as well. Heading to the local shop to line up my Lexa 400 today, so I can get in a bunch of casting practice before Sunday.

Looks like there may be some weather coming through this weekend, so not sure where my trip will end up.

Actually 2039 with a couple hundred dodo's. Regardless, things are popping! We have a few southern-hemi's brewing down south with more likely to come, pushing all that pelagic-infested warm water up our way. Love this time of year.
