I will respectfully disagree with that statement sealskinner and "shouldn't" even go there. Alex bought that franchise fair and square. He should be able to spend his money as he pleases. While we may not agree with the way the business is run, it is theirs to run as they please, as long as they do so in accordance with NFL guidelines.

The position they are in, and decisions those folks are facing would be difficult for anyone.o_O

    I completely understand your point.
But my position is he can't afford to own the team. The team is the only thing they own. So all their eggs are in one basket. They will always be somebody's bitch.

So if the relocation fee is $650M. And the Spanos made $64M last year. How many decades would he need to pay that off?

While I don't really know details of their finances, I believe they have proved they can afford to own the team.

The question is, can they afford to own the team and a stadium? Or what portion of a stadium? Seems obvious they only want or can afford a portion. The people involved at the city and chargers haven't figured that out in fifteen years, so they all suck.

In order to own both, means they would not only be trying to run a billion dollar NFL franchise, which they are already struggling at, they would also need to run a 1.5 billion + or - dollar facility. Monumental task that I believe only about six NFL owners have taken on.

Two of the four pro teams in California are playing in old run down facilities. I am not including the Rams but we could. That seems to indicate it is not just the Spanos family as Oakland, Raiders and San Diego are all in the same boat. Perhaps as much as a reflection of the state, cities and politics within?

It should also be noted that three of the four pro teams in the state also need coaches as their records suck. I suspect part of that is related to high tax rate and player salary. Teams struggle to bring in enough talent as they can't just match another teams offer they need to beat it, by a lot.

    Good chatting with ya sealskinner.:D

They are reporting that Antonio Gates has listed his home for the second time. He bought it for $1.5M. Had it up for $2M. Now it's back up for $1.6M.

Oh yeah, the house is in LA....
Doesn't mean a thing. But it sure is interesting.

Spanos should move the team to Mexico.

It would be easier for Deano to learn Spanish, than for him to get taxpayer funds.

He doesn't have the money to move, he doesn't have the money to stay.

His ownership is choking the franchise's ability to operate properly.

The NFL should pressure Deano to sell. If worst comes to worst, give him a Donald Sterling toss.
