What if he got them at the store, or a gift from a friend from who got them from the ocean or from the market.

Awesome on the creepy crawlies!!! Can't wait to go again myself!!

I have a hard time believing this one. I know what the possession limit is and I still have a really hard time buying that they cited him just for having 3 extra bugs. He musta pissed somebody off. What did he do knock up the DFG dude's teenage daughter? Either that or he's a regular poacher that they were just checking up on....

DFG can search your boat, ice chest, truck, house, or buisness WITHOUT A WARRANT if they believe they have a violation. I haven't seen the specifics this year about possession vs. take... You better believe it that they will scour everything in sight. While abalone diving, they searched my hotel room in Ft. Bragg, because I had shot a lot of fish, and they had seen me with several abs... I had thankfully only one limit in possession, for myself. But, I also had a limit I had GIFTED to my sons. You must remember this one. You can legally GIVE your wife, kids, roommate a limit of whatever. And, they do not have to have a license. They bend the rules hard on us, so bend 'em back!!!

And if the POSSESSION is 7, like it's 3 for abs, it MEANS...7. NOT 14. Your ass will be toast. Check that wording....bring a dingy on your boat to gift a limit to. Note I didn't say Dinghy. You have to gift to a "DINGY" 2 day permits are useless in this case. Like abs, I can only have 3, by hook or by crook.

I guarantee this is not true, no law enforcement agency can enter your house without a warrant unless someone is in immediate danger, or there is probable cause. Following a guy home and knowing he has been out getting lobsters is not enough PC. Even if they did enter the house, the evidence would have to be in plain site the Freezer is not plain site. The search and seizure laws are the same for everyone. You can call your local DA's office and I bet you'd get the same answer. Your buddy may have been busted, but I'd be willing to bet everything I own he could be it, if that was the exact scenario how things occurred. I have a feeling he gave consent to search the freezer.

WOW. I should have posted a picture of all our lobsters. So many people viewing and responding to this thread. It looks like it was a tough opener for most. The divers I bring on my boat are hunters for sure! It is strange that so many people are not aware of the 2 day lobster permit. TIGHT LINES AND FULL DIVE BAGS TO ALL!!!

Here is the info from the DFG regs.:Pillow_Fi

1.17. Bag and Possession Limit. No more than one daily bag limit of each kind of fish,
amphibian, reptile, mollusk or crustacean named in these regulations may be taken or
possessed by any one person unless otherwise authorized; regardless of whether they
are fresh, frozen, or otherwise preserved.
    Exceptions: See Sections 7.00, 7.50(a), 27.60(e), and 195, Title 14, CCR.

The exception is if you are on a multiday trip. This won't work if you are on your 18' skiff and obviously are not on a multiday trip with 2 limits in the bait tank.:nopity:

    27.15. Multi-Day Fishing Trips.
The following provisions apply to anglers and to boat owners and operators when a
Declaration for a Multi-Day Fishing Trip has been filed with the Department of Fish and
    Game.
    (a) Provisions related to the angler: Up to three daily bag and possession limits of
saltwater fin fish, lobster and rock scallops and up to two daily bag and possession
limits of abalone are allowed for a person fishing during a multi-day trip in ocean waters
from a boat whose owner or operator has filed a Declaration for Multi-Day Fishing Trip,
pursuant to the provisions of sub-section (b) below.
    (1) The provisions of this section do not authorize any person to take more than one
daily bag limit of fish during one calendar day.

I don't think its armchair fishing. It seems to me that we have fisherman trying to bring clarity to an issue raised.

I don't see any bashing going on here.

Great job on the bugs dude

Thanks for the education gentleman. Made me start thinking about hunting bag limits too. Checked it out and was glad I did.

Remember, just because it's dark doesn't mean they can't SEE or HEAR you.

So.. it sounds like you can get a multi-day permit, catch a limit per day for say three days and you're good... that is as long as you're on your boat! but once you get home and put 'em in your freezer you're you're 14 bugs over the possession limit??!! Or do you have to keep that permit on hand until the bugs are all eaten/given away/whatever??!! Just a bit confusing.....

I had nearly caught limits of salmon everyday that I went out this season .
Hope they don't want to come in and weigh the steaks in my freezer out.

I haven't been able to fill the freezer like this in a couple years

But then again, I haven't been able to fish this much in a couple years either.

Just remember to CYA while you're out there pulling in those fish.
