Been fishing this island for over 20 years and never seen Halibut action like this. All fish caught outside of Silver Canyon Friday and Saturday morning . Live squid on 40 lb line, 8oz dropper loops. 70 feets Water. Fish bit consistently all day. WSB 20’s and a 30’s lbs. Halibut 26” to 40 inches. Release 25 or more on the smaller Halibut. My buddy and I could have caught more but decide to go home early to take care of the fish.

Imagine all the positive adjectives I could think of and × 100

It's going to be like your Andy Warhol 15 minutes of fame.Every fisherman lives and dreams for days like these. All your planning, reading conditions, and experience paid off bigtime.

Congrats.

It was all luck. My original plan was to pick up squid and head to San Nic. Just wanted to check out the area before I leave for Nic and after metering for 20 minutes I found a squid bed with good marking. I was the only boat fishing that area a few other come and go. Many other boat are fishing for Yellowtail over at orange rock and all the way to Avalon.

i fished a shallow beach Saturday, between the palisades and the vs. normally can pickup a legal of one or the other, or at least some shorts.
not ONE fish . dead. about 10am on the rising tide.
saw all the boats between you and I and thought about heading over. spun back to the front side.
Nice Work! that’s why we fish!
if only all friends and fishing partners can be with us on them special days :)

Outstanding catch! What is the length of your dropper loops and do you use a single or double dropper loop?

4 turn surgeon knots then cut to a single about 16" to the hook. From knot to the weight about 4 feet. I normally use a double for Seabass fishing but since there Yellows around and line shy that's why I cut to a single. Good luck.
