Left Dana 7am with full load of chovies and headed to Catalina. Sloppy seas , some mist/ light rain...no traffic.
Arrived a little damp and set up at Hen Rock to dry out. Nice halibut took the fin bait within 15 minutes of dropping the anchor....only 15 pounds or so but provided dinner for the group.
The seals were impressed by our good fortune and came to watch the show. Only one other boat fishing in the vicinity so the seal to boat ratio was overwhelming. Growing tired of feeding the pest and being out numbered we relocated.....with no additional reward for our effort.

Wind grew ever more intense from the southeast and by noon made hooking to a mooring line in Avalon look like an episode from The Three Stooges.

Will attempt to land another fish prior to alerting the dogs again today.

A friend of mine and I are considering stuffing mackerel with habaneros on our next trip for some dog treats while we fish. Might send a strong message - who knows.

Buddy was out there Monday and sacrificed a nice 30+ wsb and good sized yellow to a knot head. They just hang outside till it’s gaff time, and then bye bye fishy. Wish pellet gun control was legal.

I wonder. Not saying I ever did it because supposedly it is against the law, but let’s just say that ghost chilies in mackerel don’t seem to bother the bastards a bit.

Green laser pointers from Amazon or eBay for $10 seem to bother them quite a bit though.

Nothing illegal about feeding the cute sea lions (with some added spice)
