been out on 2 trips to Catalina the last two weeks... all front side... basically same area as well... 33*21'54"N - 118*20'2"W

4/11 - Ahra Ahn - Long Beach Sportfishing
Full Day - great bait - great weather
the boat and crew were very friendly and worked hard all day...
bonita would go wide open on every spot for about 5 minutes before the seals would shut it down...
a couple calicos in the mix...

4/17 - Fury - Dana Wharf Sportfishing
Full Day - great bait - great weather
same scenario... 5 minutes of fun till the seals get in the chum...
saw very few calicos this trip...

Ive never seen the seals as bad as they are right now... once they are on the boat theres no escape...
Ive been picked off many times by seals... you come back with just a head... or just the tail if youre butt hooking...
But Ive NEVER belly hooked a sardine and come back with just the center chunk with the hook in it... both sides of the hook eaten off... WWTTFF??
And this was as soon as the bait hits the water and takes off... not soaking it...
Finally just switched to colt snipers and mega baits... I couldnt take it anymore... probably wont be back to Cat this season...

And if you did hook a bonito you better be fast and get it to boat otherwise the seals take those even faster... less than 50% came aboard Id say...
Theyre even coming out of the water gunnel high to snatch them...

Cats on seal lock down...

good luck...

Im reading the "seal bombs" are still legal... but they are regulated... theyde rather you use a less aggressive method obviously... yell... bang on your hull... etc... LOL

It's unreal. They are above the Z population (Naturally sustainable threshold). They have been protected for so long they are no longer concerned about humans. Rather we are a free food souce and free healthcare for them. The problem will only get (and already has) gotten worse and worse. It makes going to Cat amost pointless some days.
