Trolled the front side all morning for a only a few bonitos. Tried for some calicos but a lot of the kelp close to shore is now MIA. I only caught one shorty.

    66.5 Degree water
    X-Rap Magnum 15
    25lb test copolymer
Trolling in 100 feet of water
Action Picked up around 1:00pm, high tide.

The bonito bite picked up and then suddenly this guy bit.
He had me wrapped up in deep kelp for about 20 minutes. I was about to give up, but then the kelp gave out first. I'm not sure how much it weighed.
We trolled the area for many more bites, mostly bonitos. Then another screamer took my lure. I knew it was another yellow, and then a seal got him shortly after! A gang of seals kept taking our fish and they stole 3 of my X-Raps along with them too.

Headed back around 2:30 after the seals wouldn't let us land anything anymore.

It was kinda weird Saturday because I thought there was going to be a lot more boaters on the water, but there was nobody at HB's Sunset launch ramp. I felt like I had the Island all to myself. There were a few divers out but I only saw 2 other private boaters fishing all day.

that's gotta be 30-35 #.......you are 6'-10" or taller right?

nice job...if you feel the fish never give up the kelp will give way sooner or later...and oh yeah fucking dogs!!

Nice job! Good to see some decent yellow's are still around. I happen to live here on Catalina. Yes, things have been quiet around here. My favorite time of year. We love our tourists, but it's nice to finally get a break. I was out all day yesterday (8 hours) on the back side, and only saw 1 local checking lobster traps. Tis the season!

We had the same problem with seals a few weeks back.

Glad you got some yellow and the island to yourself!

The Domes/Box canyon was the same. We were out from 6am until 345pm and only saw one cattle boat and three other sport boats plus the Navy. A month ago there would be 20 plus. I love it!
