Launched out of Sunset Aquatic at 6:00 AMish with my buddy Mike. Stopped past Nachos for a health pass of 4”-6” deans (best ive seen this season) and half pass of squid. Made the turn out the gate to an odd small wind against tide swell and decided we’d head to Catalina and start off on the East End.

Got to the Rock Quarry and started working the area. Mike toss out a Tady C and got bit by a 7lb Bonito. Unfortunately the dogs were on us and picked up his fish before he could get it to the boat. He pulled on it for a while as we chased down the dog (pretty much the funnest part of the day). Finally got the jig back but the dog won the fish. Couldnt shake the dogs so we made our way up the backside of the island. Fished all the usual spots for not much.

Since the wind was offshore, the backside of the island was dead calm. We decided to take a look at the zone between Cat and SCI (Bluefin). Spent an hour chasing porpoise crashing on Bait with tons of bird life. Area even had a handful of humpback whales. Looked super fishy but metered nada. Headed to Farnsworth and made a few drifts for zero on the meter.

Pushed back into the Island by Cat Harbor. Picked up a couple more bonito on slow trolled deans. Fished up the backside to West Cove. Got a handful of Calico (all released) and a few more bonito.

All Bonito caught on the finbait. Only 1 fish caught on squid (Calico)

Back to the barn by 6:00 PMish

    Bait: Awesome
    Weather: Awesome
    Fishing: It’s fishing
    Water Temps: 66* - 67.7*
    Deep Water Color: Purple Blue
    Shallow Water Color: Milky Teal
    Current: Hard to find
    Fuel Burnt: A Shit Ton

I’ve been fishing Catalina since 1977. Did they find new spots?

When you show everyone spots, they no longer are spots. They get over fished at the cost of 5 bucks a month; x whatever, maybe it's profitable, I doubt it.

You show technique and how/what to look for in/and new areas to fish, randomly, that's cool!

    Maybe you misspoke Dave?
