Fished the backside and east end and a little spearing, we had sardine and fresh frozen squid. Started off on the backside by cat harbor. Few Bonita’s. But that was it. The. Rockfished off slate verde. Caught a couple nice ones. Kids wanted to spear fish. Went to slate verde kelp. Son got his first calico. I was excited it was legal....

one of the prettiest days on the water I have ever seen.

squid boats were starting to set up as we left.

    Thanks for the report.

Just a word of caution: Great whites and big makos are known to frequent the Salta Verde area. I actually saw a 10-foot+ mako 3 years ago at the Suicide Kelp, which is about 2 miles east of SV... Stay safe

Thanks for the note. Do you think it is safer on the frontside?

Let me preface this by saying I am not a diver. Overall, I'd say the front side is safer, just due to more boat traffic. However, no one has ever made a living betting on where a shark will be or what they will do on any given day.
