Recently bought this boat and its registered as a special construction, no year or builder listed. Strangely the Hull ID is only 3 digits (106). Appears to be a very solid built glass over plywood. Its been at a slip for the last five years in Ventura Harbor and I moved it inland for a full makeover. Long shot, but does anyone recognize this specific boat or see any clues as to plans it may have been built from, similar models, etc? It was previously set up as a 2 man commercial boat, crab or lobster most likely. Not sure if it was built to its current design from the get go or maybe a prior military boat that someone added the cabin to? Either way its got some good bones and in my opinion has some really good lines with potential for a clean rig. Just hope to get an idea of where she may have come from. Thanks for any information.
Nice layout. I'd get rid of the tractor seat and find an appropriately sized bow rail. Are you gonna need to repower?
could it have been a modified navy boat; I've seen some similar designs in navy surplus and that's the first thing that came to mind
Falling asleep at the helm is a big danger, especially for commercial fishermen. From that perspective, that seat is close to perfect (a leaning post might be better). Over the years, I have owned a bunch of boats and always wanted a more comfy seat. When I spec'd my current boat, I put in Stidds. Those things are dangerous -- can put you to sleep in 30 seconds.
If anywhere on your paperwork you have the official documentation number you can run it through: https://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/st1/CoastGuard/VesselByID.html and/or https://cgmix.uscg.mil/PSIX/PSIXSearch.aspx
that tractor seat. ha I get what you are saying. But you also have to take into account the wear and tear on your back.
I think you and I are saying the same thing -- that seat would be murder to sit in, but it won't put you to sleep. At the other end of the spectrum, you have something like Stidds that are a pure joy to sit in, even hour after hour, but they are arguably too comfy as its easy to fall asleep in them.
