Love it, I almost always fish 30lb on mine for bait or jigs, this year I fished 40lb on it due to the chances of bigger fish. Glad I did, when I got this one on it. I wouldn't recommend it for the bigger bluefin that were here though, there are better choices for that.

Most use it with 30#. I use it as my 40# stick because that's what Leon at Calstar recommended many years ago.

I have two of them but don't end up using them. For local fishing for school sized fish, I almost always use the 800 ML (15-30) with 25# mono. It allows me the flexibility to switch leader to 20, 25, or 30#, depending on the situation. If I think bigger fish are around, I bring out the 700 MH or 700H.

That rod is right in the middle, lol
If your fishing on a big cattle boat is fine, if your on a private smaller boat I'll go 700 m

one thing I like about my 8 footers on my center console is that I can get around the outboard no problem. that part is pretty nice. also, I have a long pulpit and a high bowrail (which I love) and they allow me to get around that no problem too.

That's why a long rod is better on big boats to go around and prevent the line from touching the hull, but
One thing I hate on my 8 ft is when a big fish takes the lure and my back pain cries for a shorter, more parabolic rod, so I share the fight on long rod/big fish with my buddies, let them suffer for an hour, while I watch them struggling with the long rod, laughing while I enjoy a beer, it's all fun buddy

I love mine, like most I fish 30# on it. Setup deck hand style with a Mak8 or ProGear 625.

I ended up picking a brand new one up. Cork style deckhand. Put my Trinidad 16A on it. Sick setup! Thanks for all your input guys.

Go to rod for 30lb. It can fish 40, but its a litte light for 40 imo, and too heavy for 25 so i don't even bother with that. I fish mine with my avet mxl or my penn torque 25N star drag, depending on what im fishing for. Both reels have 50lb spectra backing, and enough room for 50-75ish yards of 30 pound.
