I haven't targeted bass this season until yesterday 6.19.12. I had hooked a couple Sand Bass as by-catch while on other fishy pursuits but for the most part I haven't even been in bass habitat due to those other pursuits. So what the hell I mused, let's go do some credible unbiased scientific research that is totally funded by the private sector. :)

So how to make this research as telling as possible, as close to what happens on the water day after day after day....I'll anchor up on The Barn Kelp that gets hammered on every single day by private and sportboat alike in their relentless slaughter of 11 3/4" bass. I'll validate my pre-concieved conclusions for sure!!!!

After a quick two-hour session I must submit my methodology and findings:

Method: A - Anchor up WAY off the visible kelp and fish for WSB by chumming squid ringlets for a couple hours and soaking fresh-frozen squid and fly-lined live mackerel.

B - Charter these guys with the funny hats to DRIVE UNDER POWER right up my chum-line twice and start a couple drifts 75' off my bow to catch the sweet spot of my chum-line....

    Findings:

My paparrazzi shot....I didn't want to be photographed holding a 6# turd...

Oh it gets worse. The recently discussed slot size recommendations and limit changes must be implemented ASAP..... of the 30 fish obtained during my research, none was smaller than 14" and ranged as high as 22" with the average fish being approx. 16". I photo-documented a few samples for our resident bass experts to assess. They look very unhealthy in that state don't they??

As if releasing numerous 3-4# fish, a couple 5#'ers and my new PB 8.6# at 22" long wasn't disgusting enough, these big ol' fat Sandbass from 3-6#'s kept getting in the way of my research fighting on the surface with clouds of gold shimmering just underneath the poopy mele'.

    Conclusions:

I must declare this day June 20th, 2012 as the birthday of the official collapse of the propaganda campaign known as "The Collapse of Saltwater Bass Fisheries". That collapse is undeniable, the bass collapse....not so much.

    Final solo effort count:

    30+ Calico to 8.6# (27 released)
    8 Sandbass to 6# (7 released)
5 Barracuda on the surface iron (5 released)
Mackerel were very hard to come by
    1 just legal Halibut (released)

That sandbass looks like its screaming like a teenage blonde in a bad horror movie.

Not very healthy looking at all!

Congratulations on the completion of your unbiased scientific research. I'm sure a government grant for additional research will be on its way soon!!

I did similar research here a few weeks ago - fished for a few hours with 40+ bass released with 5 of them 18 to 20".

Thanks for the report. It will no doubt be refuted by the all knowing, stewards of the kelp (you know, the groups with letters for names - W.H.A.A. [We Hate Avid Anglers], S.H.A.M.E. [Stupid Humans Annihilating Marine Environments]) and non-anglers alike.

I am ready to embrace today, 6/20, as the birthday of the collapse of the propaganda campaign regarding the collapse of the bass fishery.

No experiment would be conclusive without a solid control group. The shitsticks in the glamor hats are just the necessary stress test to verify data as additional variable to said group.

Obviously, you refuse to be confused by the expert environmentalists and their scientific pre-conclusions, which are based on studying the issue on land.

    Exactly

How can they possibly study the effects of the MLPA on the water, don't they know studying the effects of supposed overfishing is best done in an office in Sacramento?

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

So what are you trying to say? Do you mean that 20 yr old bass experts with big sponsors that tell us the sky is falling while they weigh in huge stringers at tournaments are full of SHIT ??? I would have to agree based on your fishery data. I think they want a personal trophy fishery for themselves. Now that we have a return of warm water, i will guess that the collapsed sand bass fishery will also magically reappear out of thin air. I am not an expert , but i am observent enough to know that the sky is not falling. FUCK THE BASS POLICE........:D...........MOFO
