Has anyone heard if the 2016 license will be like LAST year, that is, the same, or higher cost, and once again a cut to our legally mandated and specifically allocated trout quota? Will they shaft us--again?

You feel "shafted" when you buy a fishing license ? I get my monies worth out of mine every year.

That is interesting--there is a Jim Isbell in Texas right now running for some office, Sheriff as I recall--Texas is where my family is from. I have only recently found out how many Isbell people there are--in Texas, here, and elsewhere. My very best to Bubba, with a name like that, I'll bet he's a swell guy.

PS when you say the license will "be the same" does that also mean you think they will illegally cut the trout limit (size and number) just as they did last year?

The license cost is the same. The county took over planting at Laguna Niguel Lake and have done an outstanding job, stocking 2lb-3lb fish.

Last year, the DFG, in defiance of state law, cut both the size of the fish, and the number of the fish---required by law, to "use the money elsewhere". No different than how CA diverts funds all the time. Money that is directed, by law, elsewhere is simply taken--think of roads as a perfect example, X amount is allocated, but they see fit to use it elsewhere. That's CA politics and your question "how do they do that" is a good question, and a fair question. But they don't care. I tried on Western Outdoor news (Carrie Wilson, or some such DFG person writes a weekly column) to get a published answer to your--and to a lot of people's question, her reply to me was "go ask these people" and directed me elsewhere. It was clear the question was too hot to field in her column. That's another way to deal with the public--just ignore them. Honestly makes me feel weird about running out like a good little boy, and paying for another license, when they can't even take that tiny amount of the money set aside for trout stocking.

Card-carrying BDer fishes for California PUBLIC stockers? My how this place has evolved......

PS: I guess I could justify that if the stocker was inside a striper. :D

Can't comment on the trout, but I went down to see Carl today at DL and the license was $52 & change with the SW enhancement stamp. So it looks like it's the same to me.

While standing at the counter a lady walked up and asked Carl if he had any balls? It took everything I had not to bust out laughing or make a smart ass comment.

The look on Carl's face was worth a million bucks. LOL

Call it a hunch, but I'll bet that DB guys have fished for trout for some time--maybe not the mainstay but still..............
