I fished out front on Friday morning solo...
Water temp came up some with the small South swell swinging into our coastline...this had the fish active early.
I targeted the lower end of the Long Beach section of The Wall on the outside...dead low tide and two hours beyond - aggressive feeders and a ton of followers and head butts that somehow missed the 90 hooks on the C.bait.
I ran uphill until a red plastic children's slide that was sitting on top of the rocks caught my eye...took it as a sign and it worked out.
I caught 40 or so bass ranging from 1 lb up to 6lbs before heading up toward Fermin.
I stopped on the outside high spot at Fermin proper and fed some calicos the swimbait on my first three casts.
The next cast had followers that were fighting over the bait, but just didn't stick...Soooooooooooo, I fed them the crank bait and they ate it.
Once the current backed off a bit (West wind and uphill current actually made it easy to drift the corduroy and exploit the openings in the lanes) I moved up the line toward the golf course.
No current, water was turquoise, and the stalks were broken up and grouped in 3s and 4s...I went vertical limits with the WAR and Baby Puss combo for nothing...I lurked the PEARL near the bottom for nothing.
Sooooooooooooo, I threw the crank and they ate it.
Fish were shooting up from the stalks and going Uncle Buck.
I had little expectations going into the morning session, but I was over joyously surprised with the outcome.
The coast is loaded with H.Backs right now too, so if you've got a little one or a wife that loves the water, take em' out and play guide.
Here's an edit of the first half of my day...filled the SD cards before I finished up, but wanted to share this kooktorial on how to stumble onto a crank bite!
Looks like we might head North for the SWBA tournament eh Mikey?
Thanks for the BDOutdoors upgrade too Captains...lookin' good!

excellent video. how big was the turd at the end?
I'm guessing it was around 6lbs.
23 inches and some good girth to it.
Such a kook, where the video ends is where the SD card filled up...however, I went on to show the fish up close and talk about my approach to the area I was fishing and the bait and how the hooks were upgraded and double split ringed etc. I posed on the bow so I could grab some frames from the footage too...when I realized that it had probably stopped filming way before all of this is when my Kookdom went up a good percentage.

Nice Turd and where you fishing straight braid to the crankbait?
50lb. Izorline braid
Three turn uni knot to a #4 90lb. Decoy egg snap
You can change baits quickly if you need to, and the shape of the egg snap (in my opinion) gives the bait a much better deflecting range.
I fish straight braid to all of my hard bait fishing applications including in freshwater, some anglers feel like the buoyancy of the braid doesn't let the bait achieve it's designed depth range, but I have not had any bad experiences with fishing it in this style.
I've been fortunate enough to not have any failures (line wise) with this technique.
I do however enjoy fishing mono and a much lighter setup when cranking for it's gaming qualities...but for the most part, my approach is as technically geeked out as possible.
I've realized though, that I don't know shit but what I see, and only I see what I see.
Long explanation due to excitement to go fishing.
