Anybody want to buddy boat to Tanner/Cortez for BFT? Thinking of the first week or two of November depending on weather.

Update. We are planning a run 11/1 Sunday/funday! Anybody headed out want to share intel?

Ideally we would leave early in the morning after making a tank of Mack’s. Fish 2days.

27’ Grady White fully rigged. Leaving from San Diego bay.

New to San Diego fishing but have a boat and want to make the run. Do you just drift through the night when at tanner?

We just did this trip last week in a Grady 282
Bringing bait was a waste because we filled the boat in five hours. So was the two days worth of food and drinks 😬
I would suggest bringing twice as many flying fish as you think you need because there’s a bunch of little sharks out there and a bunch of smaller bluefin that often just destroy your bait without sticking.
We ended with four, 90-336# and had four destroyed baits

Wow! Great job slaying.

How much fuel did you go through?

I’m in the market for a 75gallon fuel bladder.

Twin 4.2 f225 Yamahas here.

75gal AUX. 135 gal Main.

My fuel burn is

.5-.9 trolling

1.3-1.5 @ 24knts.

If you want to drift through the night, then depending on weather, you may want a sea anchor (or at least a drogue). When at Tanner, we almost always anchor in about 150' of water, although there is a high spot of about 60', as I recall. Bishop, on the other hand, gets much shallower but if there is any kind of swell that can kick up dangerous (huge) breaking waves -- if you are just drifting, make sure you don't drift that direction.

What harbor did you leave from?

I assume you’re fishing a 28’ Sailfish model GW. Pushing the limits of your factory tanks, love it!

From SD, Yes a 282. I think it has 200 or 220 gallons standard( my buddies boat) we brought an extra 50 gallon bladder and put it in the tank but didn’t actually need it.

How was the sea/ocean conditions that day for you?

Doesn’t hurt to have that extra fuel, rough conditions will drain the tanks fast.

Thanks for the input. Every bit of info helps. If y’all plan another long run, let’s buddy boat.

We’re heading down again tomorrow, launching Wednesday morning

Is the wind and seas going to be flat enough this week? Looks like 5-15 winds and 4-5 seas through Sat

Depends on your comfort level. We’re heading out in a 28’ boat, should be good Kite weather
Now that the swell is up. Are you guys bringing the extra fuel bladder(50gals)?

I'm going out on the Big Bird tonight. Sixth 1.5 day this year. Freezer is full but I just can't sit home when it's going off like this. Good luck on your new ride.
