Hello-

A buddy of mine moved out of state and gave me some of his tackle on the way out. One of the rods was this Browning Silaflex. It feels like a PT-70 Mag from having pulled on those in the past although it has been a long time since we pulled on one. I don’t want to sell or trade it, I’m just curious to see if anyone knows exactly what it is.

Happy New Year All and thank you!

Davis

I think once Silaflex got involved with Browning there was no more "Magnum" I could be wrong on that though. You have the model number right there and a factory label. Is it parabolic ?

Just a thought..... Silaflex made a rod called a PT-67. It was somewhat like a 70. If your rod just doesn't feel right it may be what you have. One thing I just don't know if it was produced after Browning bought Silaflex, meaning produced in the dark glass.

I have a PT-67.It's a nice 20 lb. rod.Would be great for tossing Anchovies and has enough backbone to pull hard.

I have both the Silaflex PT-70 and Browning/Silaflex version. The # looks like the # that is on the Browning version of the PT70 - assume the rod is 7'? None of the Silaflex's I have handle anything beyond 20# line very well. Though I did take a PT70/Mag and fished 25# line on BFT of 40/50# - I bottomed the rod pretty good. Didn't break - but I won't do that again. That's an older Yo's custom. I worked there in the early-80's, looks to be before that anyway.

I bought the 2 pc model of that rod on eBay and it is labeled a Magnum, I guess Browning bought the name Too.
‘I also have a few original Sila Flex PT70 Magnums and it feels the same .
IMO the company went to crap after Browning took over in ‘62
