Bringing 50 wide for trolling

Hi, going on a 3 day next week. Planning on trolling a Madmac 240, and a few other assorted “farm animals” . Should I bring my 50 Tiagra and all roller rod for trolling? My 16 Visx don’t have enough capacity.

Why not? I used my Penn 20 Visx for trolling on my last 3 day, easily reeled up a 30ishlb yellowfin I got trolling a Nomad lure

If you’ve got it, bring it. Cool part about dragging one of the MadMac jobs is that speed doesn’t keep them from working right. So, the boat doesn’t have to be “trolling” for you to get it in the water. As always, I believe, get the OK from crew.

I've been bringing mine in the last few trips but as of now no luck. Its just a matter of time before they start biting .

Fishing the Indy a few years back goofing around with another guy trolling using my Mac 30 with 135 pound test trolling a mahi pattern marauder. He got a 165# I got a 185# on the troll. this January a good friend hooked a huge yellowfin on the troll marauder again.

Trying to figure out a modern trolling rod, most of the boat rods I see now are rail rods… my all roller rod looks so out of place…. Probably need a new rail rod for my 50

You don’t mention the model so it is unclear if it will work or not. A 50W can be filled with 130 spectra for kite fishing and trolling in my view. Plenty of capacity for the 130, a 30 int can fish 100 trolling way back. Top shot up or down from there. I was using a a rod just over 6’ last month and got a cow. Last year I used a boat rod with all rollers and got some bigguns. Fish can’t see the stick. I did buy an OSP 1x3 and 2x4 though and I like them.

Old school 7460 h graphighter, 5’6”….. seems too short to use in anything but a bucket harness

Nik P. on the Alan Tani July 1-4 SOA 3-day was trolling with a 30W or 50W...so not seeing any reason you should be concerned with your setup.

I been trolling with an obscure Okuma BG-T-601M-1 and a Daiwa VIP6455XXH for years with no foreseeable need to change.

I was on the June trip with Nik. I think my rod needs an upgrade for my upcoming 10 day next year anyway, but it was his trolling with the Tiagra that made me break mine out of the safe to use on the upcoming trip! No more trips for a while, so everything will go down to Cal’s for blueprinting
