I was reading the local boat reports and starting to see more response from the Bluefins and then went to the Royal Star. Randy "Lucky" Toussaint earns his nickname again! I just want to share the joy! :D

After jigging up some yft and seeing good sign of bft last night we opted to
start our trip on the short banks today. The move paid off big time this
afternoon when we got on a school of 30 to 40lb bft that responded and settled
in producing 87 fish out of a 5 houir drift. This is the first sign of
this bluefin acting right in quite some time so hopefully we've turned the corner and are in store
for more of this caliber angling.
We're going to fish yellows tomorrow and be back on the offshore grounds Monday
when the weather settles down.

Randy

I think the news called it a super moon, I guess it looks like that when the moon and earth are at there closest point while the moon is full. they said the same thing will happen next month too. it happens a few times every year.

Last time we had a full moon the BFT fishing sucked! :) Hopefully this bite will stick for a while...

It seems like every full moon now is a "Super Moon." It's about 225,000 miles from Earth. Average distance is around 235,000 miles, so it is closer, but the distance varies in its elliptical orbit around Earth.

Hope the "Super Moon" doesn't have a negative effect on the Tuna Bite. Next one on Aug 10 falls in the middle of my 5 day on the Intrepid! Should be a meteor shower around that time as well. Maybe that will bring us some luck!

"...bft that responded and settled

I always thought that a "super moon" was what Kim Kardashian has behind her.:indabutt:
