My boat has older bottom paint which i would love to remove, BUT i have heard from my pal Chesapeke Chuck that it is a right royal pain in the @$$.

I need to redo it, so Chuck told me to just paint over it with Black Rustoleum from Home Depot.

I like this idea as it is cheap and it will look good. I dont care about antifouling as the boat is trailered. THAT being said, do any of you know of a "permanent" bottom paint that is affordable and that i could paint over the crap thats there?

Any comments would be apprciated, here is a picture of her now:

Actually i was trying to get lavendar...smart ass!

Bottom paint is primarily made for anitfouling, well there is no fouling to be had while sitting on the trailer in front of my house.

Just trying to see if anyone has experience with this.

And i would be getting black.

Thanks for the offer Frank, i will get in touch when i get around to painting the botom of my boat if i cant find anything else.

Since you're not keeping it it the water, pretty much anythings better than what you have now. The problem is, without decent prepping, the antifouling won't be a good base coat, so you'll need to touch up as chips and scrapes pop up. I'd say buy some Interlux topside paint, flat black, so the blems show up, and go to town. Touch up as needed.

Eric

btw- From your other thread, keep an eye on the hoses, the clear vinyl tends to rip over time.

First off nice boat..i got a question for anyone that could answer it..and this is just a noob question but i would like to know...you paint it on the trailer, correct? Well how do you paint the part thats covered by the wood on the trailer, the 2 or so strips that run the length of the trailer..do you just leave the 2 strip parts or do you some how shimmy the boat to the side enough to paint and dry and slide it back into place or what? Thanks.

another way to do it is to leave it... i know that sounds funny but the fish dont care and you or your fellow angler would never see it because it is hidden by the bunks.

Then again you would know its not done and that may drive you nuts.
