Got out of mission bay around 8:30am with my 2 kids in search of some bonito. Headed down to the whistler and put a troller out and continued south.
About 15 mins into trolling, my son yells,”fish on!” And he reals in a small boney and I throw some bait in the meantime. I throw out a couple sardines and it was instant hookup.
He reeled in all 5 at that stop. He would be fighting a fish and I would leave one hanging for him to get on after he landed the one he was on. My daughter was there for moral support. lol! Great day in the water with the kids!

Bonita is an excellent way to get kids started and involved with fishing. Some of my grandkids have caught them trolling , live bait and throwing crocodile's or irons.

Your doing a great job Dad!!!

One of my fondest memories was running into a school of bones in the double digits weight wise. I was younger than yours are. Luckily it was a private boat, I had to leave the rod in the holder, my grip strength was shot, almost lost the rod a few times. Thanks for reminding me, I’m 42 Now.

Gramps taught me a ton that day, all the lessons are still sinking in with a smile.
