I've looked online at the CA sportfishing regulations site, and it describes pacific bonito but does not mention limits. Do bonito have a limit? A friend and I fished the Coronados for yellowtail, but we didn't find any... we found a bazillion bonito and some big ol' barracudas.

I assumed it was 5, so we kept 5 each, I even threw a nice one back. Is there a limit? Or is it the bag limit of 10?

If your in Mexican waters only five of any species max! Then up to ten of total bag!! But some are same as five!! Example you could have five yellowfin tuna plus two dorado that count the same as five. Or five yellowtail and three bonito a calico and a barracuda. Ten total. But be careful. No halibut size limit in mex. but if shorter than 22 don't bring it into us wsters. This is just a sample. Read the regulations!!! For both!!!

Thanks for the replies gents. I appreciate the lesson. I was aware of Dorado, and their 2 counting as 5. I've only been doing this for about 4 years now, and on my own boat for 1. I'm still learning, and I want to do it right.

Glad I stopped at 5 each.

Another thing to note is that if your using bonito for hoop net bait DFW has been known to check the size/number limit of people while hoopnetting.
