    Fun trip with Jaime.

We slayed the Yellowtail our first day fishing on Thursday, three smaller Bonito. Early morning bait was difficult all three days.

I heard from Isaac that making bait was easier as the sun came out. We loaded only (16) mackerel in the tank but never used them each day. All our fish were caught on jigs so it did not really matter

We spent the next reallllllllly windy day snorkeling and playing with our friend Spot the whale shark and many dolphins.

The third day, we made an unsuccessful run North for Grouper. Current was way too strong. Scope of line was almost on the water’s surface. We did see a couple nice Dorado boils of smaller fish but “No Grouper for you!” The Indian was laughing at me the whole time.

Roads were great via highway one. The last 15 miles into BoLA you really need to slow down to 45mph or less as there are some killer potholes again. Thanks again @Dogman619 for the heads up on that. New trailer ran like a dream. Boat preformed beautifully even though it does slap in the chop, as always. We managed a few 35mph runs. Wish my trailer swing arm was about three feet longer for that ramp on the choppy windy days but overall no problems with gear the whole trip. Great to be back in BoLA! Looking forward to our next visit.

Nice to meet you while I was there.
Likewise bud. Your Dad looks so different, now clean shaven! Happy you guys got the big Grouper! I met with Nando that night and tried Remidios on Sunday. Current was ripping and the wind was blowing. I don’t think my bait ever hit bottom and jigs were out of the question. Hope to run into you guys again.

Thanks for the great report and pics. Dogman is a stud and very helpful and generous with the local info. Did you trailer the 5 and then meet up with the 1- or just take the 1 all the way down? No trouble trailering with the local policia? Those bastards have a hard on for me... Did you get checked for the biosphere permit scam at the ramp?

This is the second time I’ve heard someone refer to the biosphere thing as a scam? Why do you guys say it is a scam? $5 to fish for the day? Apparently you haven’t used the Dana point wash down for $1 per minute? Or paid the launch fee at daveys or Huntington harbor? Haven’t paid for parking at Disneyland? Now that’s a scam if you ask me.....
Last time we were there I saw a guy at the market, the market that’s on the beach side. He walks in without a mask and the clerk says you need a mask in Spanish and signaling he needs a mask. He says why do I need a f-ing mask, California doesn’t require masks anymore. Then he says I need 10 bags of ice. The clerk doesn’t understand, he yells 10 bags of ice and gets irritated because the clerk doesn’t speak English. Some people.....

1 all the way. I’m still not experienced at the 5 and I love my Mama Espinoza’s crab burritos. No trouble with the trailer or policia at all. Checked for the Biosphere permit, showed my annual pass and off we went. Easy peazy!

Some people are having difficulties because it’s just another fee to fish in Mexico. The fee went up REALLY dramatically this last year (more than double for the annual) For me it’s worth it still to keep on the boat and I'm covered for the Nados in San Diego or down in Bahia. Saves going out and buying a bracelet every time I want to go out. Like I said before.....Mexico's country / their rules. I find getting along well is a lot easier when you respect that. But yeah: Disney Land costs....don't even get me started.

Ok fair enough, I should rephrase ..The biosphere permit in and of itself is not a "scam" and it is yet another small fee to pay to enjoy those incredible resources. Perhaps the focus of those funds should be a little more on the illegal netting and poaching, which is taking it's toll on BOLA. I don't think they plan on taking on the cartels any time soon. Curious what benefit, if any, the people of BOLA get from another mismanaged governmental entity? I will pay the permit and enjoy the resources, just pointing out that I highly doubt the money goes towards it's stated purpose. Maybe I'm still a synical A hole?

Willdoggy- Try the 5 and see what you think. You will be impressed, especially when you get past San Felipe.

Fuck it. It's a SCAM!! They're suppose to use it to protect the bay, but I see nothing but nets all over, poaching for totuaba and all the other sneaky stuff they pull. But they want us to pay to use the bay so they can protect it. From what?? They're not stopping the netters or the poachers that are destroying the bay. Just my 2 cents from my own eyes.
When I say nets I'm talking 200yds long, and NOT checked for 4 to 5 days watching dolphin and turtles die right in front of my place... Now that's sad!

This is the first time I ever bought one, and they only enforce it on big weekends that us gringos go. Other then that you'll never see the place even open. Big SCAM!!

I totally get that too. No doubt about the collected MX funds probably going into the wrong hands. I know every dollar of my US taxes goes directly to where it’s supposed to! 😂. The cartel does what they want and people are too afraid to fight them. Even the government. But the kind people of BoLA we should hold dear to our hearts for them sharing their knowledge and resources to us. As long as we keep visiting they will continue to make their living supporting us and not getting involved with nefarious deeds like Totuaba bladders for sale.

I really want to try the 5 and you’ve given me more reason to give it a run. I guess I’m just a creature of habit and need to venture out a bit of my comfort zone. We should do a trip together with the whole gang. You give the directions and I’ll negotiate the mordita.

You had me at "I'll negotiate the Mordida"... Matt and I are talking about an end of Sept 2 week drive down. We would like to time something with some of the familiar names and faces from this board. We were talking about driving all the way down to Los Barriles and visiting and fishing with Greg from Martin Verdugo's. He might be back up in the states by then though for lobster season. Either way it would be cool to meet up with some of you guys down there. We owe Chris and Derek some serious dinner and drinks for all of their hospitality.

I tried a new route going to BOLA ...
Crossed at San Ysidro and took the new road in ensenada to go to Ojos Negros and then the 3 to San Felipe and then the 5. It was my intention to bypass Mexicali traffic and it worked perfectly... if you go that way there is literally 1 traffic light between the border and BOLA. Made it in 10 hours from Irvine with a break at the border for money exchange and another in San Felipe for fuel and breakfast burritos at Rancho Market

Funny guys griping about paying $5 for a Biosphere Permit when some spend more for a 6 pack of beer every night? LOL LOL Sitting here in cast 3 more weeks
I'd die to pay 5 bucks more a day out fishing now.
