5 of us drove down Sunday from AZ. 3 of us had been down before and one friend was from Florida and the other is a tournament Bass guy. Road was amazing until close to BOLA turn off. Then the pot holes made us slow down. Stopped in San Felipe for lunch and to pick up some shrimp for dinner. We fished with Joel Prieto who never disappoints. First and last day we limited out on medium Yellowtail and 2nd and 3rd day we went North to bottom fish for red snapper. Limited out also on the best reds I have ever seen in about 150-200 feet. Jimmy also caught a nice black seabass. Nice to see they still exist. I have been going to Punta Gringa for 25 years and trying to catch something other than sand bass and the bass guy lands a great Halibut on a jerkbait... It was colder than we expected (60's) and the 4th day we were wondering whether we were going since the wind howled all night. Went out at 9 am and it was fairly calm. Boat ride was close to shore to spare the gringos from getting seasick. Fished Irons for Yellowtail and live bait for Reds. 6X and 6X juniors in blue/white worked fantastic. We were used to summer so we used stronger braid and heavier leader so that made it much easier. Bait was boiling all over and caught a few on irons thrown in the middle. Joel can whip the irons like they're nothing. All together a great trip . Brian from Florida who lives on the water says we ruined the snook fishing for him.
