Late report with a few pics. Hooked up with Captain Juan for 3 day power trip. Arrived from San Diego via Mexicali with no issues. Crossed at 6:30 am and made BOLA cruising by 1:30 ish. Day 1, went North for YT for starters and went far to fish the North side of La Guardia for some nice Cabrilla action. Tails to 18lb and a couple nice Cabrilla. Day 2, went South but wind wasn’t our friend and while we filled the box with YT, it made for a rough ride back. Day 3, went North again and slayed the YT on the Yo Yo and then casted for Cabrilla to round out the trip. Biggest YT was maybe low 20’s and plentiful. Cabrilla was more about quantity this trip which made for fun action with many doubles and triples going. Stayed at Los Vientos this time. 3x bedroom, great AC. No complaints. Really nice chilling in the evening under the beachfront palapa watching MNF and then the baseball playoffs. William the owner said he just got the permits to put in a floating dock which will be pretty cool. Btw, the usual spotties were in force off the beach around Los Vientos, but if you used a gold stickbait, there was a steady pick of 1 lb yt to be had which is just awesome with light spinners.

Ive fished with Juan for years now at SQ, GB, La Bocana and Bola. and highly recommend him. For years I took my own boat to Baja because I like to do my own thing and figure stuff out on my own but truthfully, there’s so much extra work and time involved taking your own boat. Now that I have a bunch of little ones at home, It’s all I can do just to sneak away for a few days much less hassle with the boat. I’m happy to jet down and let Juan take care of the boat and all that comes with that. More time to enjoy the fishing for me.😁. I‘ll start taking a boat again when and if I ever have more time. The point is, if this sounds like you, definitely hook up with Juan because he fishes like you would on your own boat.

Most pics Juan took. Enjoy.

Great report. Great pics. I'm headed down in a couple weeks. Any issues getting a travel visa? Or with the non-essential covid travel restrictions? And what's the going rate for a panga these days? thanks

the immigration guy at the Mexicali crossing wanted $30/head for visas. I explained to him that were were only going for 5 days and that cost was free. He then pointed to a sign that said $30/each and he told me the “free” visa was only if I was going to the dentist or something like that. I just kind of laughed and paid $90 for three visas. I made him give me a receipt. You know, it’s one of those things where you just (in my opinion) chalk it up to another shakedown in Mexico. Got to pick and choose your battles....the Baja fun tax. Not sure about panga’s $$$ but it’s a lot more than the $100/day I used to pay.
