I went on the Bob Sand’s charter on the Endeavor . The boat got in late from a 2 1/2 day down to San Clemente. They did well on bluefin. We loaded and got the safety and fishing info from Tucker. Too far to run for the bluefin, we would head to the far end of Santa Cruz Island. They did stop and look for squid on the way, we couldn’t see any come up to the light. The boat stopped up almost to Forney’s cove. We fished nicely cured sardines on dropper loop at grey light. No takers but some small sharks. We made a move down the island. Water was a bit off color and cold, current was not great. We scratched a few Calico and rockfish out of there before making another move back toward Forney’s. A little thinner kelp and the sun came out. I flylined sardines for some small Barracuda and there were a few bass, but still not too good. Tucker decided to make a move up the back side of Santa Rosa, so we picked up, and found a spot about 3/4‘s of the way up the back side. Water was cold and we started picking up Olive and assorted rockfish. Tucker decided that it would be best to just drift and found a stone to work for shallow water rockfish. Anglers using pieces of cut squid were rewarded with blue, olive, tree fish, and chuckleheads. A few sheepshead were caught, including a jackpot winner. Everybody had a nice bag of filets to take home. The guys on the charter were very cool, a lot of them had been doing charters with this group for a while. All in all, a fun day, even though we didn’t get the big game, we ended up with nice fish for the table. Tucker and his crew did a great job, especially after going back to back trips… the deck staff and cook were out untangling, sacking fish, and helping anyone. The sea conditigons were good, and the boat rode very nice. For an overnight, it was a pretty good ride!
