Often post factory rigging can be at fault for this type of thing rather than a factory oversight. Not having insurance will guarantee a royal pita in time and money for the owner.

O- ring or not, none of those plastic jobbies truly seal unless they are semi permanantly sealed with sealant.

I love the first surveyor's final thoughts. This Cutwater is suitable for a bathtub or trailer.

Truth, however, someone obviously changed the deck plates out for reasons unknown, and replaced them with unsealable inspection plates, this would seem to let cutwater off the hook.

I don’t like what they did there with that stupid little drain or many other things but, whoever changed those plates out screwed the pooch.:)

All those fancy engine control pass throughs are not sealed so if you get to the point they are under water you are in trouble on any boat.

%100 agree. Any discrepancy is going to be looked at and thoroughly argued. All it takes is a little doubt to be placed in someone’s mind. Think jurors on high profile cases. It’s the same in criminal cases and civil. The switched hatches in such a pivotal place is enough for me to think this is not going to end well for the owner and his venting website will lead to him regretting his decision to post on the internet until it’s been resolved. The boat builder will probablly send him a thank you note.

Additionally, the builders silence is important. Their legal team as in most cases will say don’t correspond with anyone or talk about anything. Most of the time the party with most to lose will shoot the selves in the foot. This case I’m betting on a 400k loss for the owner.

    CSI gots shit on Rod!!!

Well this sucks all the way around! I don’t like seeing a local builder getting mud slung at them and hope they are doing the right things to provide a safe quality product backed up by great service.

To see your favorite toy like that would be a kick to the gut to say the least.

All his sarcasm isn’t helping at all either. Bad idea to start that website, worse idea to lace it with all the lame sarcasm. The guy seems like a douche bag and a giant pain in the balls. I kind of feel for the guy though, the boat looks like a lemon and the used trailer is a tough one to figure, like the boat sales guys were looking to send a message
Who the hell wouldn’t have insurance on a new boat like that. That doesn’t figure at all.
This has it all pretty much, shitty boat, douce bag owner and horrible customer service
My bet is the boat builder pays him most of his money back since lawyers cost so much, slap a bandaid on the POS boat and sell it to some other poor sap

That’s a gut wrenching story. 400k boat with no insurance! Damm
Brutal job with the new trailer as well....

It’s a pretty bold move to take the boat on a maiden voyage like that. Port Alberni to Alaska on the first trip!

I’m guessing this must have been his first run with a brand new boat, seems like everyone I know who has taken delivery of a brand new vessel has had some pretty substantial kinks to work out for the first 5 or 6 trips.

Sarcasm aside, with it sinking upside down I hope they took the opportunity to wax the bottom of that joker. Nothing bugs me more than not being able to get the spots waxed that the trailer bunks / rollers cover. There’s just nothing worse than that.... Well, maybe sinking a $400k boat with no insurance would be close but it’s a toss up in my book. I mean those lines that form on the un waxed areas are just the absolute worst.

I do own this model and havent had near the same issues as this guy describes upon taking delivery. I've actually only had one semi serious/frustrating issue, which was that the pumpout hoses and drain hoses to my holding tank were transposed and had to be reversed. No leaks, no major system failures, etc. The dealer had properly calibrated the AP, HMU's, engine controls etc. Could be that this is simply a difference between dealerships.

As to why this boat sunk, I have a lot of opinions about the owner, the modifications which he made to the boat after market, how he stored it, some serious WTF's about the pictures I see, and I'm amazed at a lot of assumptions he put in writing about how the boat is designed and operates....and I'll leave it at that for now.

No doubt the owner is a non boater and considered boat ownership to be that of a mid size auto. Get in and turn the key. To each their own on the insurance decision. Obviously there are some quality concerns with this boat and dealer delivery. My biggest wtf is that a 302 Cutwater has an asking price of $392k.

This is not going to end well for the owner and is very poor PR for Cutwater. This is on THT also and that site is worldwide.

Agreed it’s not great or for cutwater
I have looked at them at the boat show and they are beautiful boats, I find it hard to believe a boat maker for that boat would do a crappy job at anything, course I never bought one ha ha.

I still done lolike that drain in the transom/engine well, one leaf and your plugged...stupid.
But I also don’t like scuppers that drain below the waterline either, so there’s that.
