Bummer. I fished on the Q105, 51 years ago for Albacore. She had 3 engines at that time. We fished until about 4 pm, when the fleet used to run home at 1 pm. We passed the fleet on the way in, but were passed by a flat top doing 30+ knots. Fuel was something like $.30 per gallon.
While in dry dock at Homer for repairs, the ship caught fire on 19 January, apparently due to fuel igniting while welding work was being carried out on the stringers. The damage to the ship was significant and was considered a total loss at the time. If so, it’s a sad end for such a storied and popular sportfishing boat in the San Diego fleet.
