Who’s happy with there boat insurance. Need to make a decision soon
Thanks in advance, stickandstay
Very happy with Chris McKinnon at SeaInsure (division of SeaTow). Switched to them after BoatU.S. partnered with Geico and jacked my premium from $375 to $808 in one year without any claim or changes to my coverage.
Here are some similar threads.
I have BoatUS 2016 Parker 2120 Yam175 I pay 440 yearly. They do cover down to Punta Banda with an additional rider. I work at AAA and with my discount didn't come close.
I have Boat US. Seems fine
If you are under a specific size, maybe 30ft, AAA.
My 22' Boston Whaler full coverage with Yamaha f350 is $127/year.
AAA for us
AAA for me as well.
Time for me to shop around !
I can help you if you decide shop. I'm a broker and have several markets available I can price for you. 310-740-0588 is my cell. I have Travelers on my boat, which includes mechanical breakdown coverage for engines and generator.
AAA FOLKS call your agent to see if you have coverage in Mexican waters. May be in for a surprise.
I use Boat US (which now Geico) on both my boats, and AAA on my sea doo's.
Ben Green Insurance is who I use, he’s been great and very accommodating. I got a great rate and coverage on my boat, trailer, and all my fishing gear. Ben is an angler himself and takes care of tons of anglers and pros. Check him out at www.bengreenins.com
I'm taking delivery on my new 2550XL May-Craft at the end of this week, I have Ins. on my 29 Nordic Deck from a guy out of Tx and my premium is $1300 the same guy quoted me over $800 for the May-Craft at that time I had 3 boats on one policy, I have since sold/traded one of the 3 boats
I called AAA where I have several vehicles insured and I was told that AAA won't insure a watercraft because I don't have a homeowners policy with them HUH AAA combines your Homeowners & Watercraft together on one policy go figure
The good part, I just called BoatsUS and got a policy with up to 300k/300k and towing up to a 100 miles out for $398+$10 for Towing
So I didn't just save 15% by calling Geico but it was more than 50% so this weekend I blow the money I saved at the Fred Hall show in Del-Mar
Our insurance is $300 a year $16K declared value and comes with FREE TOWING
There is no other option IMO
I've called BoatUS 3 times this week (bought and sold boats). Every single person I talked to was over the top nice, patient and knowledgeable. Pretty refreshing. My Cabo is $398 with unlimited towing.
Was Boat US, 335 I think. They tried to jack me to 800. NOT !!
Called AAA, was told they did not insure boats over 5 years old .
Probably same lady that told you no homeowners insurance, no insure. I think she is wrong about that. Last week, I called AAA again as I'm in the middle of a repower. Asked about the 5 year thing and that we USED to have homeowners insurance and everything insured thru them and now it was only roadside service that we had. She reassured me that they would be glad to help and quoted me 441. 35K value on my 226.
I'll be calling Gary at Twin Rivers today
Ex-Boats US, now AAA.
I'm not surprised about having to have a homeowners policy in order to write a watercraft policy as they want to sell you all of their products.
I thought $398.00 w/ $87k stated value and a $300/300k coverage is fair my other Boat is $1300.00 w/ $125k stated value w/$400/400k coverage. It was $17 to go from $100k to $300k $17.00 is worth it to me a $100k doesn't cover much when things happen.
I did ask a few questions about covering electronics and gear and was told there would be a total replacement at retail costs to replace in addition to trailer a replacement of $5k.
As for Mexican waters are concerned there is an additional fee prior to entering Mexican waters and to call 24hrs in advance to add coverage.
Roadside assistance is also included with BoatsUS as AAA won't touch a trailer unless you have RV coverage with them as I found out when I had a blowout a few years ago, I even tried to upgrade my coverage over the phone and the lady said "NO" so after having a AAA card 42yrs that I never used I did not renew it.
I had a towing Co. bring me a tire swap out the blown tire and install a new one for a $100.00 on the side of the road without removing the wheel from the trailer, I had just purchased the Boat and was bringing it home when it happened there was a wheel lock on the wheel, I guess the seller forgot to give me a lug key.
I'd like to see what Gary's policy looks like compared to BoatsUS & AAA.
