Made a run from Newport Pyramid head Wednesday afternoon
Left Newport about 3:00 p.m. and sea conditions and nightfall made SCI about 9
Next morning about halfway out to the fishing grounds we came upon a patty flylined sardines for possible yellow tail
My girlfriend friend need to get something out of the cabin and put her rod the rod holder and immediately got freight train by something rather big
Almost spooled on a triadad 16 I button down and the mono to fluro failed (bad double uni)
Not sure if was a very large yellowtail or small bluefin
Headed SW and found about a dozen sportboats
Saw American Angler hooked up and gaff came out unfortunately fish was lost at gaff
Decided to put out a single midsize rapalla mackerel color hopes of a yellowtail and low an behold ended picking up a 20 pound class bluefin
Water conditions were flat water temperature 63 to 64 slightly off color blue

learn to tie the FG and you get to find out how big the first one was.

At least you got redemption
Isn't FG for braid I was doing a mono floro connection
Hindside I should've pre rigged

Connection was made on the boat night time rocky conditions hindsight 20 20
The other mistake I think may have been I was tying 20 pound mono to 30 pound fluro

Ah, Gotcha. Being meticulous about connections is gonna be important going forward I’m sure though. Live and learn.
