They were there...Bryce Hermann
Gorgeous fish. Killer photo. Tell me that wasn't on Sunday.
beautiful background shot.
Yes that is a recent pic but not taken off Santa Cruz guaranteed, quite a bit further away.
I know for a fact that that fish was caught off Santa Cruz Island last Thursday.
I’ll take you up on it. I just brought my boat from Newport, so I’m just getting familiar with the area. I go out usually once a weekend, let me know if you’re up to it. I just caught a 5 ft mako but haven’t found anything else besides rockfish one far
Same here Sat. Left SB at 4:00am spent all day off the backside.
Santa Rosa Island Bluefin photos by me
Those from the 80's?
Thirty years ago exactly to be precise. Mind-blowing BFT bite lasted for a couple of weeks. Largest fish in the 800lb+ class. Purse seine captains made more $ here than they had in a lifetime, as hundreds of tons were whisked from the fish hold directly to LAX and on to Tokyo fish market. Personally I watched them unload day after day in sheer awe. Just imagine tying in to one of these..
Check this story out from this legendary BFT event at Santa Rosa Flats:
Good read. Thanks for posting. One boat made over $250K in one trip. Not bad.
30 years ago, $250k would be like 1 mil today..
weren't all those fish caught in nets?
yes. some were hooked... spooled the reels and never looked back
That's how it went down.
Indeed, a couple of sportfishing yachts gave it their best, fishing at night whilst the seiners were wrapping fish. Even with their heavy gear and fighting chairs they were no match for the goliath Bluefin..
I was out here last Saturday and it was a frickin desert. No bait- no birds no life at all. I thought our fish finder quit working it was so dead. An expensive boat ride but we had to try.
Not questioning/calling anyone out, but this Tuna looks more like a Yellowfin to me than a BFT. Look at the coloring, so much gold..
VC Locals - recognize the background?
That video is all CGI, and you can totally tell that Santa Cruz Island was photoshoped into the video along with the boiling Tuna. And he is just pulling on some reds slowly! lol
