Left mission bay with my good friend mike and waited in line for firecracker sardine. Got out and cleared the jetty around 6:30 am.
Went out and found a paddy flung a bait out and was bit. It felt like tuna. Ended up braking me off. Whatever it was it had teeth.
Proceeded to the desired destination and we found the yellowfin. They were tough to hook. Hooked one on the popper and quickly came off.
The 371 has perfect water. Saw a paddy with some dorado but couldn’t coax a bite.
Finally found huge schools of yft and bft.
Me and my buddy threw the popper all day and had an absolute blast doing it. The way these fish explode on the popper is second to none! By far the funnest way to fish tuna.
School after school we kept connecting. I went 3 for 8 on the yft and got a 43lb bluefin on the last stop. All on the popper. Also got a fat 12 pound ish bonito mixed in with the tuna.
Unreal day. This is skiff fishing. Run and gun.
Also, while we were on a foaming school of yft idiots ran them over trying to catch one. Not respectful at all. We stayed on the outside and casted into them. They obviously can’t cast. We exchanged words guy said sorry, then he blatantly cut off the ocean odyssey. Captain was pissed.
Anyways we found our own fish and most of the time had them to ourselves. We were the last skiff out there and found a foaming school of bluefin that’s where I got mines. My buddy went 2 for 5 on the tuna. He was also driving all day. Props to mike!
    Such a rad day!
    Go get em!

Awesome! Looks like the color of popper didn't matter. What size are those?

Dude that Bonito is a submarine!!!! Great trip man. The popper is such an awesome way to catch those tuna!
My last trip we watched two boats run over a school, for the life of me I cannot figure out how they think that will work out for them..

One of the most enjoyable days I’ve ever had on the water! Perfect weather, runnin’ and gunnin’ for foamin’ tuna that would blow up on the popper! It’s always good fishing with Mike but this was exceptionally FUN!!!!
