Ok here is the report boarded at 9PM Tues 9/10 with a load of 25 guys. got the word from Captain Brad where we might go and fish and what we might go do. got bait filled the tanks and the fish hold. got excited for that cuz looks like we will be doing some chumming the bring up those BFT. not so great dines and some so and so ill tell you later about what happened there.

woke up around 0530 at grey light and about 0615 we got to that "MAGIC paddy" with a private boater. and this is where mayhem and chaos followed. pinned my dine ran up the bow lobbed in and bam no more than 2 mins bounced a rat yellow over and back in the water to swim away. pinned another dine and this is where my spectra started to scream. yup the right kind and few mins later a yellowfin tuna is gaffed into the kill box you go. pinned another let it run for a minute or 2 "fresh one" this time BFT.
went on like this till about 10:15 am the school stayed around. the plate pic is day one count at about 11 am

than off to the next paddy where we found some nice Dorado more BFT and so and so size yellows. at this point I would hook and hand off the rod to those who havent been hooked up yet or it was their first time on the water they all excited to fight these fish. "here reel it its your fish, have fun"

what worked: I first started using 50lb setup and that got bit well but was too easy of a fight and went down to 40lb. even a few time fished 30lb and 25lb. all got bit and had no problem bringing them in. my setups were straight spectra to a short top shot of flourocarbon about 5' "Pink Izor" with a 2/0 ringed j hook butt hooked with a little thumb tension on the spool to make them swim off I had almost no tangles maybe twice that was more like over and under and your free

What didnt work:using straight mono, guys mainly got bit on by rat yellows so I would help them with attaching flouro and their odds got a bit better. nose hooking did not seem to get bit well either, and picking a poor beat up bait

BAIT:Bait was not that great but you had to pick one out that was a hot rod with a better chance of swimming.
we ran out of bait at about 230pm. the bait in the hold all rolled over. this is where Capt Brad made the call and he turned around and headed back in to fill the tanks up with more bait. Got in at about 0230 am baited up and back out for day 2.

Knots: spectra to flouro I used the tony pena knot
Flouro to hook I tied the Miller knot. very small profile and no not failure. and I like to pull hard all connections held up great.

Day 2 was not as grand as day on weather had changed BFT acted like BFT the would sink out as you approached them more like scratch fishing.

In all happy how it all worked out almost had my limits of tuna got about 15BFT 3 YFT 2 dorado 2 some so so size yellows

Thanks for sharing, I'm on it this Tuesday.

It will be my first time on the First String and I'm very much looking forward to it. I've always heard very good things about the boat and the entire operation. It will also be my first trip out this season. Any other suggestions and tips about the First String would be great to hear.

Any of you guys try artificials?

    Any bunk suggestions?

I usually let ppl fight it out at the back and throw from the bow...did that work for others on your trip?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey Jerr,
Thanks for the report and hats off to you for sharing your pole with others. Whether you realized it, that's a kind gesture by you. Some times all it takes is that first one to get the stink off of someone and make their day.
