All depends on the transom condition (rot?). Youre either talking about 1 of 2 things here.
    1. Notching the existing transom and building a splash well for water...or
    2. Hanging a bracket(either swimstepped or straight box, and hanging the outboard off that.
Both have been done. Most guys lately are going with option 2 with a flotation bracket (big hollow aluminum or stainless water tight bracket.
No matter what you really need to be certain your transom is not water logged or rotten. Most are, eapecially if theres been lots of opening made from FF, trim tabs, lights, swimsteps etc drilled into it.
    Good Luck

Brackets are cheaper shipped out of Florida....just fyi. There are a number of different brands and styles. When I hung one on my last boat I used an "A&G Marine" and was very stoked on quality and fit.

the transom is dry strong and in good shape and its about 2 inches thick. I have one of those full transom brackets from a Parker aluminum and I was just wondering if the transom is strong enough to hang an outboard motor 150 hp 4stroke. or do I need to re-inforce the transom from inside Thanks

Gotcha. 2" of good solid transom should be strong enough. Definitely not an expert here so dont take my word solely, but I wouldnt just do nuts bolts and fender washers. I went to local metal shop and made backing plates out of 1/4" aluminum scrap and used them on the inside of the hull. Rock solid when i was finished.
Also Id call the bracket manufacturer and ask what they recommend. I did this and they gave me exact hardware dimensions required. Good Luck!
