Tried Redondo Beach today, Monday 5/10. Marine layer nearly all day, wind 5-7 (gusts to 9ish), water temp 63-64, water clarity about 15 feet. Never fished here, there is a learning curve. Several kayakers and a paddle boarder pretty far out there, only two other boats. A small aluminum and a dive boat, although I did see two sporties working.
Tons of bait, some dolphin, a few birds. Tried the artificial reefs and checked out the canyon. Seemed to be "oily" north of the harbor entrance. Got two stray macks using only plastics. Nothing else. Worked down the coast for nada. Tried one last spot and BINGO! From 1:30 to 2:30 put 21 calicos (hence "blackjack"), and one sand bass in the boat. Yes, that's like a fish every three minutes! Hard to tell but in one pic the rod is hooked up behind the fish picture. Made my day! Size was between 12 and 15 inches, all released. Several multiple hookups, very busy hour! When that bite ended, headed in. Plastics colors were mixed with a chovy color getting the most action.
Another nice day on the water. Tight lines!

Natural oil seepage outside the harbor. Same west of Santa Barbara. It has no bearing on fishing!
