Hello deckers,
Here we have a minty black Penn Torque 12. I bought this reel a couple of years ago. I spooled it up several different ways. It went on a few boat rides and was only used twice. Fact of the matter is, it's an absolute beast of a reel and it's extremely overkill for my purposes. So, it's just been sitting in its box and I don't think I'll ever get to put it to good use. The black models have been discontinued and this is your opportunity to snag one. It's 9.9 cosmetically(i'd say 10 but it went out on a few boat rides and used twice). Mechanically 10!

Thank You cant wait to fish it. I just bought a black 25N from my buddy and he wouldnt sell me the 12 because he spooled it up with 50 pound spectra and landed 4 Bluefin all over 60LBS with it. Not big compared to East coast Standards but impressive as a tough little reel.

Awesome! Yeah I have the black 25N as well. That one I won't ever part with. That reel covers a lot of different stuff out here! You've got a nice set kipp! The freespool is sick!

How do you pull in a blue fin with a Torque 12? That fish will rip off drag.

The Torque 12 star drag has 25lbs of "usable" drag, whereas the handle on lever drags get very difficult to turn at higher settings. IMO a star with 25lbs is equal to an LD that has about 35-40lbs drag...which can pull the plug out the bottom of the ocean !! A deck hand buddy of mine caught a 124lb bluefin on his Torque 12 star and he's not a big guy. Think I've got about 270 yards of thinner type 40lb braid on mine. Pretty decent capacity actually

It is the length of the braid that I consider.... A fish that big will spin the whole spool on a 12 in a few moments.

Some braid is thinner diameter than others so you can stuff a bunch of line on the spool. I think my buddy was fishing 50lb. On a typical day yah might get spooled on a 12, but he got his!! Should not be a problem on fish 60-80lbs, but a higher capacity 15, 25, 25N or 30 would be a go to on heavier fish

Cybercc stated it best, and there are some that are challenging themselves and enjoying the smaller lighter reels. People bringing multiple setups on the sportboat and catching them on the lightest one. On those trips the odds an obstacles are stacked against you especially with less retrieve per crank. On a personal boat the fish can dive but you can also chase it down and gain back line. Last month on a sportboat trip offshore we were using 25-30 # topshots and they werent biting on anything more even in the darker hours. There were 24 80# grade Bluefin with one over 100#s . Yes, a kid got spooled on a low profile reel but another one was landed on an Avet SX, I didnt look close but it was probably the Raptor version. As much as I love it, I wont be taking the Torque 12 out for these models anytime soon but the 25N attached to a Super Seeker 6480 will be in the lineup.
