Did my annual climbing trip to bishop for thanksgiving, but this time i carved out 1 day to fly fish. The advice was to stay near town due to snow and water levels so thats what i did. Fished a green rabbit hair midge with a green fluorescent bead under a 2-3 leader to an indicator. Didn't fish 2 flys since I'm not great at this yet and having 2 flys is twice the chance to get stuck during a cast. I could see large schools of stocked trout in the pools and with 0 people around, it was a lot easier. Fished a stretch that was 300-400ft long and landed ~15 fish total for 2-3 hours. A local guide stopped by to check things out (gave me some pointers and took some photos instead of pulling his rod out) said that he averages 15-18 an hour, but i was happy with what i got. Biggest fish was maybe 13" most were 8-10". Someday I'll go spend a month or so exploring all the creeks and streams up there.

how was the climbing, where'd you go?

I've spent about 20 summers in the Sierra so we've got some good people up there, send me a PM if you ever need leads (both hobbies).

I mostly climb in the milks, working through my projects there. There was a bit too much snow outside of town to fish but hopefully ill be back once its dry's out an ill have to see if you've got any pointers.

At least the guide was cool. I could tell a hella story about me mixing it up with Tom Lowe one day. What a douche he was.

Funny, he spoke about a few guides up there that aren't very cool and act like they own spots.

Fly Fishing along CA 395 throughout the Eastern Sierra never disappoints.
