Heard it’s been REALLY BAD down there for the bigger tunas.... but if you live down there and go out often enough, you MIGHT get lucky...as for being a tourist just trying a few days.....
Not so much....Hoping it gets better.
San Jose del Cabo’s got “some” 60 pounders coming up with alittle consistency though if you want to put some fillets in your freezer...glad you finally found a couple bigger ones in Cabo...

It’s bad because most of boats don’t want to go look for the correct school or go the distance. They charge to little money and limit themselves on where they can go or what they can do. My boat has taken a completely different approach to tuna fishing down here. You need a fast boat to cover ground.
I totally agree....I’ll keep you guys on my call list because I like that answer...
May have to charter with you guys to test that theory....seriously,.... would like to fish with some new guys next trip....

True,.....BUT, what I’m referring to is the following: I Remember as recently as through the 90s you could go down there and get one or two big Bull Dorados 40+ pounds GUARANTEED.... The local long liners under Shark/ Norma put an end to that.... Also if you had three days to put in, and you even “half knew” what was working at that time, You’d be assured to get a tuna AT LEAST 80 plus during the months of July- December.....no more...... the seiners have put an end to that.... I believe there’s a reason why reports like yours have become far few in between in comparison to just 20 years ago ..... Marlin aside,.... there are no more regular reports of big fish,...because they’re mostly gone.....I stopped hoping it was just “cyclical off-seasons”....the last freak good year was 2010... and it already hadn’t been good for a long time and hasn’t been since ....and To clarify,.. I am strictly talking about larger tunas.... the footballs are still there every year..... but they don’t count... just like the chicken Dorados, that are all that’s left ...... i’ll keep trying though......out...

You are operating out of Cabo San Lucas and your boat is called "No Borders"?

Ive been fishing in cabo for 35 years, jbarbosa is correct, its not near as good as it use to be. Ive been looking at other places to go to. Last march some nice tunas were in, I came down one week later and the steiners had come and there was not a tuna to found.

What he is saying is TRUE. There was not a time that we could not get HUGE Dorado ... nice size Tuna .. and tons of other fish on a simple 3 day INSHORE trip. I have been fishing Cabo since the mid 70s. Some times when we set up three day trips we could only keep what we caught from our first day because we would catch so much ... we would spend the rest of our trip just catch an release ... now you are lucky if you can fill a 60 qt ice chest with 45-50 lbs of fish on a three day .. and then it may be only CHOPOS ... LOL ... but I still love it down there .. sadly the commercial raping of the ocean in and around BAJA has literally ruined it ...

Well said... but you’ll never see any of the operators down there “tell it like it REALLY is” .....because they’re only interested in taking your money while advertising that large fish are being caught all the time and often/ regularly. The reality is that those days are LONG gone.... Rats are what are left for the tourists...Sure....Even “A” tourist can win the lottery amongst thousands per season but the real deal is you’re going to be pulling on peanut fish. You have to LIVE down there and go out constantly before you can catch anything big....other than Marlin of course....

Yah that is the case most of the time. I am lucky in that I have a great guy I fish with for the past 10 years. He is the owner and operator of his own Panga and a REAL FISHERMAN .. He tells it like it is so I never question him when we go out .. I just tell him .. " you know what to do and where to go ... so VAMONOS " .. and sometimes that means a long ride out to somewhere or he does things that dont make sense to me .. but .. he gets us on the fish when no one else is catching .. and we know that TODAY might be slow .. then TOMORROW just killing it .. so we dont sweat it .. but we always have a great time fishing .. and drinking .. and eating .. and laughing while we are out looking for those damm fish ... I will post a couple of pics from this week from Cabo .. its picking up ... I will be down in 3 weeks lets see how we do ...
