Big Halibut and a story- Sd Bay 10/2

What a day- short review started 8am 1- 5 ft leopard shark, multiple bass, 3 halibut ended at 1:00. AWESOME STORY started before we left, no bait tank outlet hose, figured shelter island sd marine, opens 730, left home forgot money. Return get to store at 728, chad buys wrong hose spend way too much, I go in return , launch get bait hit 1st spot by bridge multiple drifts till 11, 5 foot leopard was a beast, couple runs decided to let it go, grabbed hook he was off. Multiple bass later it slowed, off to 2nd planned spot by S.I., , wish upon as star was on radio, SERIOUSLY , I looked up at our big star, the sun, and wished very specifically to put a halibut on my hook now. 3 minutes later I was bit. No gaff and we see it, uh oh, 3 swings 3 runs and now a broken net I GRABBED A KNIFE AND HAD HIM ON SURFACE- 1 QUiCK STAB AND LIFTED THE BEAST OUT OF THE WATER! What a Lucky day with good buddy Chad as we both kept calm 44 inches 24 lbs.

Nice fish. Get yourself a fishing checklist. It will save you from forgetting something important. Like a gaff or putting the plug in!

That pink wigly is the shank spot, blade side down so not to slice through on the pick up-up and over the rail it went- told Chad stand back.. it was an insane moment!

Measred proper for sure tail to lip, 4 inches short of 4 feet...i weighed me twice then me and the beast on home scale, maybe missed weight but she was a skinny preggo

I was thinking the same thing that Greg A. said. A 30lb halibut is right around 41". What is that hole in the stomach area with a little of its insides coming out of, never the less its a very nice fish but a strange story.

I have had cheap vinyl type tape measures shrink on me in the elements.
