Wow, this is gonna get good.

Guess I better throw away my Lexa 300/PowerPro/Viejos swimbait setup and just troll around a dead chovie with a jigmaster and a beer in my hand...

I dont get it, why would people harass him about his catch? I used to fish the professional Bass circuit and it was absolutely taboo for someone to keep a fresh water bass... I switched to ocean fishing because I wanted to eat what I caught. Being from northern Cal, I may not fully understand the politics if So.Cal. fishing, but if it was legally caught and he decided to eat it then congratulations on your catch... and keep posting on this site.

Sorry guys, I meant to say, "I got this albacore (first of the season) at the local kelp bed off Laguna. I was slow trolling a garibaldi in the 'flaming liberal' color. Anyway, I got this in an area nobody else was even fishing...right there in this MLP (my lone place) area."

WTF? I used to work the decks of these local boats and I saw day after day a boatload of guys take 10 calicos and release many more with hooks down their throats. I was with you guys on letting calicos go back then.

Nowadays, we have a shitload of MPAs, plus they cut the limit to 5 and gave the fish 2 extra years to reproduce. I pretty much only spearfish now and I see plenty of bass and a great population of juveniles and I'm certain we'll have a bright future with a healthy bass population for years and decades to come.

Congrats on your bass. The haters are probably just mad they never catch them that big. The big ones taste great; if you want to keep one, go for it. Keeping a limit of hogs might be a different story, but keeping one? You guys are way out of line giving this guy shit.

Here, let me help you out:

1) Main Street Laguna is within a MPA. He was fishing in an area closed to fishing.

2) If that fish is 10 lbs, then I missed my opportunity to be a porn star.

3) Keeping this calico is not the issue, see 1) above.

At least 1 thing you missed: he said he caught it slow trolling an anchovy but it's got metal hanging out its mouth.
