It was the Lexa 400H 6:3.1 .. Glad I didn't have the low gear power handle Lexa wouldn't of been able to retrieve line fast enough when the BF would charge the boat
Thanks for the reply. definitely took some skills to land that beast.

Epic catch! Good memories stacked there. Light lining at it's best. Props on the angling skills but that hat definitely helped a bit...

Job well done. Heading out Thursday and Friday, time to put the IO poppers and stickbaits to the test.

Props for landing that beast on a Lexa 400!!! I have one and fished it all last year and caught many tuna up to about 40lbs. Handled fine for that grade tuna no problem. You have some solid skills landing that beast on that reel especially on a cattle boat.

Awesome! Way to stay with the popper. I got a couple of YFT on my Yozuri Sashimi Bull last year on my Lexa 400 on a Phenix psw809h. Just so much fun seeing them come up and hit it. The misses are pretty spectacular too when they whack it and it goes flying.

Mark there is nothing like it . I had the 3 biggest fish on the boat all on popper and a smaller grade on bait . Everybody on the boat wished they had poppers with them lol .

ps. Bump up that shortie bite leader to 60 or even 100lb fluoro (<< what I use). No need to go lighter whatsoever.

Full Day & prvt boats. Angler, not owner.
Nicely done! I picked up a 400HSP this year as a backup to my Tranx, which got heavy use as my popper setup last year on the YFT. Nice to know the 400 stood up to the battle!

Quick question: The picture with the popper in it's mouth - was the popper that deep when the fish was landed or was that pic just for show? Inquiring minds..... :)

Congrats again!

I use wire leader with my poppers, never needed flouro at all. Got plenty of tuna to hit it last year.
Yep, its a reaction bite. You could use any old rope if you wanted probably.

The idea is just whatever heavy that has good bite resistance and works for you to rig. Those teeth on the larger models need something otherwise you could fish straight braid to the lure.

It swallowed the popper . Lucky he didn't chew through that Blackwater 50lb fluoro

Wow , just read another post about a 165lb BFT being landed in 10hrs . I guess 45lbs makes a huge difference .. His fish was a monster
