sooooo confused right now guys. I am looking for a reel to match an ULUA for maximum distance and landing potential. Any suggestions?

P.S. I am thinking of a Newell but i hear the drag isn't that great...

    THANKS!

    where are you fishing?

    either a newell 338 (local) or a 533 p series (long range)

i fish 533's and never have drag issues, just button it down and your good to go.

I use a P-338 on my 10' Ulua for everything up to a 3 day. Just put good bearings and HT-100 drags in it and you'll be fine...

And for once I actually agree with George :D

Must be the Islands on my brain!

    I would agree with Jorge...

Fish the 533P on the 40lb/50 string for the bigger units - no drag issues here.

I like the 338P and even the 322P for the 25lb/30lb string.

it comes down to how confident you are in your fishing abilities. fishing a newell on a 10 footer is like playing golf with a set of forged blades, it takes more skill but you can do more with it. If you dont feel confident in the newell then go with a shimano torium or trinidad. some people are having luck with the Avets but for the most part its just a lot of talk. the sealine is another option along the lines of the newell and if you really wanna get gangster with it you can get yourself a jigmaster or 3/0 4/0. the saltiga and saltist are another awesome option as well. my vote however goes to the Newell, half the fun of catching fish on the long rod is doing it with a newell.

I think bearings should run you about $12 and drags $5 or $6 ish??

Look up Alan Tani's tutorial on how to rebuild a Newell and you find out exactly what to do...
