best reel for a Reaper

If money was no object, what reel would you put on a UC 900gp Reaper to throw 40# surface iron?

I recently dropped off a Reaper at my favorite rod builders. Now I have to decide what reel to buy.
What would you buy and why?

I picked a reaper at the FHS this year also but haven't got it wrapped yet, I was thinking of pairing her up with a Trinidad 16a, I like the 46" IPC and the #25 of drag doesnt hurt either, my weight reduction rig.

If you are using it for surface iron imo no need for 46" per crank...

How are you planning on using it? Surface iron I’d guess. What species, what size jigs, what pound test? I’m excited to hear what someone that has fished it thinks?
It’s on my wishlist.

From what I’ve put together from multiple threads and research reel choices are tranx 500 with 80lb max cuatro or pro spec to short flouro leader. Then more conventional penn fathom or torque star 25 or 30 shimano Torium or trini 20 with 40 lb mono topshot of about 100-140 yrds give or take. It’s gonna be a lot of personal preference. I have a tranx 500 Hg it is really a sweet reel. I might get a trini for my next jig stick.
I pulled on a reaper at the show, It felt nice. I really want to hear from someone that has caught a larger model on it.
Regards
Scott

I’d go with a Penn Fathom 25n. Casts great with plenty of drag if needed and won’t break your bank

Picked up a blank at FH. Planning to use my Daiwa Lewa 400 HD w/50# on it. I had it on a UC Monster 90, but I think it may be better matched to the Reaper. Planning to put a star drag or Tranx 500 reel on the Monster.

Do you feel the monster is a better big fish rod? Trying to figure out where the reaper falls.
thanks

In a conventional, look at the Torium 16 or 20 PGA with the 4.6:1 gears getting 34” per crank. Personally I’d use a TranX 500 hg with 43” per crank and turn the handle at the rate that the jig likes best. The TranX 500 pg gets 30” per crank. BTW, the Newell 332-5 got 32” per crank.

I do have the Accurate Tern 600 XN with 52" per crank w/400' of 65#. But I may use this on my Calstar 800H, my go to wahoo stick. The new Avet star drag reel has my attention for a surface iron reel. This shelter in place craziness is getting to me and I am maybe just over thinking this.

I’m still looking for a good wrapper for my Reaper in LA area, I plan to have a Tranx 500hg now that I sold my Fathom II 25NSDP.

I have not try both and have read varied opinions between the PG and HG....can you elaborate a little bit.

The HG is a high speed reel the PG has a lower gear ratio and IMO better suited for the slow to moderate retrieve for surface iron and easier to get cranks on bigger fish because of the lower gear ratio.....I use a PG and really like it

I just picked up an Accurate Tern 600n(x) that i believe will be a great fit for my Reaper. Its black with black lettering, never seen another one and it looks way better than the white or yellow lettering on some of my other Accurates.
