Ok guys I just purchased a Okuma Cedros 10 star drag specifically for surface iron, I put 40# XXX P-Line on it but do not like it, seems to stiff. What is the best line for fishing the surface iron. Thanks ahead of time for your responses.

Pline moss green cxx I use 40 lb. but it's more personal preference and knot tying. Have many yellows with this line no issues. I like the moss green for inshore. But did just get bit in the blue water w izor 30 blue

I like Izorline. you might want to try it in the 30# flavor as well, it is very strong.

I bought a big spool of Izorline and use it to top off my reels for surface iron. Hasn't failed me yet!

Try P-line Original if you can find it. I have some in 30# and when compared to other 30# mono it is very limp and smaller diameter.

The last comprehensive test of mono lines that I know of was done in the December 2014 issue of Sportfishing Magazine, it should be available to read on sportfishingmag.com; they tested 46 different 30 pound test lines of mono as well as 36 different braids and 19 different fluorocarbon lines. Being an East Coast magazine they included some brands that I've never seen, and were missing some popular West Coast brands like Izor and Maxima. But very interesting reading!

How line feels to a fisherman as he handles it is a very personal thing. When I replace mono topshots on my trolling gear I'm using Big Game, and my casting reels currently are wearing PLine C21. Both are changes from Maxima Ultragreen, which I used for a long time, and still like, but I tried a friend's reel and liked the feel of the C21. Rather than just getting suggestions, I hope that you will ask to borrow a few rigs (I don't know of a fisherman who would say no) when you are on the water, and get the feel before you buy.

I think I've tried all the lines listed on here as well as Ande and backlash the shit out of all of them (especially when I'm casting into boiling fish) with regularity......Keep the suggestions coming boys.....
