Could always go to the county fair and buy an animal. You can find people willing to split a larger animal too, bringing the cost down further. Not a bad way to go if your only goal is quality meat in the freezer and I bet the price per pound is cheaper than the all in cost of an out of state hunt. It's not just the tag....you have to consider out of state license, gas to get there, supplies for when you'll be staying there. Those incidentals add up quick on any hunt. Id go to the fair before I went and shot a fenced in farm animal and called it hunting.

Depends on where you want to hunt, and are you using a rifle or archery?

The further north you go the tougher they are to get. Blacktail are primarily in the coastal zones, and those can be tough.

You could get a D-11 or D-14 pretty easily, but it's tough hunting. You gotta spend some time tracking and spotting in the pre season.

Hunted big horn canyon ranch nany times but i never shot any thing, took all the kids there for their first hunt , nothing breads confidence like success and its 100% success rate there. Took my deckhand there once and he went a little crazy and shot like three goats ! Told him he better stop cause he has to pay for all those goats ! Had to call his girl friend to bring him more money ..... lol I always shoot two deer a year and maybe a bear every three years the tags for two deer and a hunting lic is around $100 about 45 more if i want a bear, its pretty easy if you know how to hunt

That's not hunting. Just like TX high fence shooting (not hunting). A true hunter spends time studying the quarry, scouting and spending time in the field. A true hunter/conservationist is there to be in the forest/field, enjoy nature and, hopefully, get the game they pursue in the end. Paying a farm to shoot animals they raise is pathetic in my personal opinion.

No disrespect meant to anyone who does it but some of us are there for a different reason.

Just thought I'd through this out to you. Montana you can buy a non resident hunting license , it's a little spendy then you can buy 6 mule deer doe tags, 1 whitetail doe tag, oh ya forgot your buck tag Doe tags are $75.00 each. Buck tag is included in license. Just a thought for you to consider.Hunting access is not a problem either, the ranches get paid by the state to let you hunt on their property

in AZ, youth can hunt at age 10 if they have graduated from hunter safety. 14 if no hunter safety.
what about antelope in WY? draw a buck tag and get a couple doe tag over the counter?

Tejon is charging $1200-1400 PER PERSON for pig hunts now. Unbelievable. Good on them if they get people to pay that but you can go on a fully guided pig hunt with high chances of success for far less than that.

Its crazy, for a pig. Three-day hunt, 1200-1400 for individual or split between two people and its a little more palatable.

I'm just glad I have a buddy with 900 plus acres of low fenced land in Texas.

No charge to hunt the land. Just the air fare, car rental, out of state license, which is steep, ammo, processing, and shipping deer. Gas, ammo, beer, food,....it all adds up. No such thing as a cheap hunt.

Side note about hunting Texas, Last year, 2 in our group bought a 5 day license in Tx, we were there for a bird hunt, cashier at Academy Sports asked if they were Veterans, they were and he refunded them the 5 day license fee and said Veterans get to hunt for free. When we walked out they looked at the license and it was the annual, full license, bird, small game, big game - Everything,,,$400!

So, if you or anyone you are with is a Veteran be sure to ask, it is state wide.

    Good on you Texas!
